Sophie Nyweide Investigation Updates

The Parade report says law enforcement is currently investigating the young starlet’s death “for any potential signs of foul play.” The report also says Nyweide’s body was found on a riverbank just a short distance from a high school in Bennington, Vermont. Police say a man was present on the scene when the body was discovered, but he is not a current suspect, according to the outlet.

A formal statement from representatives of the Bennington Police Department says in part, “This is an open investigation and we are still waiting on final autopsy and toxicology reports from the Vermont Office of Chief Medical Examiner.”

Sophie Nyweide’s Mother Gave Statement to TMZ

On April 22, 2025, TMZ published a statement they say the “Margot at the Wedding” star’s mother gave them. The statement read, “We are very distraught and mourning. All I can say is her time acting was brief but very happy. She wasn’t a child star in the least and wasn’t subjected to anything hurtful on those films. She was always safe on those sets. Please let her rest in peace now.”

Nyweide’s mother went on to suggest a theory that the death could have been drug-related. “My knowledge is she was using drugs and was a tiny young woman. She was with other people when she died. I didn’t know them. There is an investigation ongoing. The autopsy results are not in. They said it would take 6-8 weeks. So I can’t say definitively,” she told the tabloid.

The unusual obituary goes on to lament that “those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers and others who tried to help her are heartbroken their efforts couldn’t save her from her fate.” It also claims Nyweide “self medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it possibly lead to her death.”
