Aaron Sorkin is assembling a new cast for his high-stakes return to Silicon Valley. According to sources close to the production, Oscar winner Mikey Madison and two-time Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White are in early talks to headline the long-rumored sequel to “The Social Network.”
While no official offers have been made, insiders say both Madison and White recently met with Sorkin, according to Deadline. Sorkin is set to write and direct the follow-up. Sony Pictures has not yet given the film an official greenlight, and the project remains in the development phase. However, buzz around the potential casting and the film’s provocative premise has already ignited speculation among fans and industry insiders alike.
“The Facebook Files” Inspire Timely and Tense New Story
Rather than retread the origin story of Facebook, the new installment will pivot to the platform’s darker second act. Drawing inspiration from “The Facebook Files”, a series of investigative articles by Jeff Horwitz published in The Wall Street Journal in 2021, the sequel explores Facebook’s alleged role in spreading misinformation, endangering teen mental health, and fueling real-world political unrest.
Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the original “The Social Network”, has been outspoken about his interest in the darker consequences of social media. Producers Todd Black, Peter Rice, Stuart Besser, and Sorkin are all attached to the film.
Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White Continue Career Hot Streaks

The buzz around the casting has intensified thanks to the actors’ recent career highs. Mikey Madison is coming off her breakout role in Sean Baker’s “Anora”, which earned her an Academy Award. She’ll next appear alongside Kirsten Dunst in “Reptilia” and is reportedly in talks for A24’s “The Masque of Death.”
Meanwhile, Jeremy Allen White continues his momentum following back-to-back Emmy wins for “The Bear.” He’ll soon play Bruce Springsteen in the biopic “Deliver Me from Nowhere” and has a voice role in “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” as Rotta the Hutt.
Whether Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg remains unclear. The original film, directed by David Fincher, also starred Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer. It was a critical and commercial success, grossing $226 million worldwide and winning three Oscars out of eight nominations.
With timely source material and a powerhouse creative team, the sequel to “The Social Network” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated projects on the horizon.
