Actress and host Sherri Shepherd may have prominent name recognition in the daytime talk show world but that does not mean she’s not willing to show her emotions.
Per Deadline, Shepherd was moved to tears as Jonathan Majors spoke about his new film “Magazine Dreams” during an appearance on her show, “Sherri.”
The movie was set to release in December 2023 but it was removed from Searchlight Picture’s – a Walt Disney Studio subsidiary – schedule due to the assault allegations leveled against Majors by his then girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The allegations were later settled.
Shepherd Jumps into the Thick of the Conversation
Shepherd immediately began the interview with the assault charges. “Your legal battles were playing out in front of everybody,” she recounts before labeling his convictions.
Majors discusses how he’s feeling at the time and how he made it through “his journey.”
“It’s been a moment of reflection. Growth, healing,” Majors recalls. “Accountability… about who I was, where I was, what I was doing. Where my mind was at. Where my spirit was at.”
He then goes on to reference what he told his new wife, Megan Good – telling Shepherd “I feel different. I love the man I am now.” The audience goes on to applaud.
Shepherd directs the conversation to an audio recording that was recently leaked to Rolling Stone that reportedly has Majors admitting to the assault. She then asks about Majors’s admission to an abusive childhood, revealed in a profile by The Hollywood Reporter.
Shepherd Shed Tears because of Majors’ Portrayal in the Movie
“I cry because my son moves through the world in a different way,” Shepherd says as her voice cracks. “So to see you portray this character… it touched my heart. So that’s why I cry because you so beautifully portrayed this man who just moves through the world.”
“Magazine Dreams” follows Majors as bodybuilder Killian Maddox as he searches for stardom on the celebrity circuit even as doctors warn him of permanent damage to his body. The movie also stars Haley Bennett and Taylour Paige.
Shepherd’s Show Gets Another Season
Shepherd also has a reason to rejoice this week as her show gets renewed for a fourth season.
The host announced the news to her audience as confetti was shot from a cannon.
“I work so hard to bring escapism to viewers’ lives through joy, laughter and inspiration, and I’m grateful that the audience has embraced what we do,” Shepherd says of the renewal. “I look forward to raising the bar and turning up the volume as we plan for our season four return.”
“Sherri” airs on Fox affiliates throughout the nation.
