Famous Artist Braves Cancer Prognosis: ‘It Is What It Is’

Scott Adams, the cartoonist who created the famous comic strip “Dilbert,” revealed he’s been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 67-year-old artist opened up about his condition in an episode of his “Real Coffee With Scott Adams” YouTube show.

Adams detailed that his advanced form of prostate cancer is similar to that of former president Joe Biden. He also revealed that the cancer had already spread to his bones.

The artist noted that since the cancer had already metastasized to other parts of the body, it is “100% not curable.” Adams bravely accepted the possibility that he may not have that long to live.

“So my life expectancy is maybe this summer. I expect to be checking out from this domain sometime this summer.”

Scott Adams Stays Strong Amid Cancer Battle

Adam’s battle with cancer is only getting worse by the day. He said he’s dealing with terrible pain and that “every day is a nightmare.”

I’m always in pain. And pain moves around to different parts of my body. I’ve been using a walker to walk for months now.

Despite his struggles, he chose to keep his diagnosis a secret at first. Adams shared that he wanted to keep his life as normal as possible for as long as he could—before becoming, in his words, “just the dying cancer guy.”

And while his cancer diagnosis may come as a shock to some, Adams has come to terms with his prognosis. He knows it’s not looking good for him, and he’s accepted it.

I’ve just sort of processed it, so it just sort of is what it is. “Everybody has to die as far as I know and it’s kind of civilized that you know about how long you have so you can put your affairs together and make sure you’ve said your goodbyes and done all the things you need to do.

Who Is Scott Adams?

Scott Adams was born on June 8, 1957, in Windham, New York. Growing up, he was a big fan of “Peanuts” comics, which inspired his early interest in cartooning. By the age of six, he was already drawing comics, and at eleven, he won his first drawing competition.

In 1989, Adams created “Dilbert,” which became quite a hit in the ’90s. He often writes in a satirical way about the social, political, and psychological landscape.

But not everyone’s a fan of Adam’s creations. In February 2023, “Dilbert” was dropped by numerous newspapers and its distributor, Andrews McMeel Syndication, following backlash over comments he made that were widely criticized as racist.
