What Did John Cena Say About Ric Flair?

On the March 24 show, Cena cheekily predicted he would surpass Flair’s record for most WWE world titles, boasting, “At WrestleMania, I make history by winning a 17th championship.” The pro wrestler added that he would “finally make you forget the name of the fun machine jet flying woooo Ric Flair.” He then doubled down by stating, “You will forever say the name John Cena.”

Flair is a 16-time WWE world champion, according to Cultaholic Wrestling, a number for which Cena, 47, has tied him. However, the exact number of Flair’s wins is up for debate. The wrestling legend claims he is actually a 21-time champ, and The Sportster shares that opinion.

Under a headline reading, “Actually, Ric Flair Is A 21 Time World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion,” the outlet explains, “Flair has technically won more world titles than the ones that got recognized by WWE.” The report says Flair has some “forgotten” wins that include the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Some of Flair’s wins aren’t officially recognized by the WWE because they weren’t televised, according to the story.

When Cena tied him for 16 official WWE wins in 2017, Flair told Royal Rumble, “It’s fabulous. I’m one of John’s biggest fans. Not only as a person and a human being, but as a wrestler.” The pro added, “He’s a great guy, he works incredibly hard, he’s had an amazing career, he’s been the flagship for this company for a long time.”

TMZ Sports Got Ric Flair’s Reaction to John Cena’s Boast

TMZ reports Flair said about Cena’s March 24 comments, “They’ve been trying to get rid of the ‘woo’ for 50 years. The ‘woo’ ain’t going away, and neither is Ric Flair,” invoking his trademark catchphrase that is a defining part of his wrestling persona.

The report says Flair also added that he’s just happy to be alive.

After a 2019 surgery following a health scare, a Bleacher Report story says Flair told the public that the fact he made it out was a “miracle.” The story says the surgery may have been linked to heart problems.

Flair has a lot to live for, as a father of four and grandfather of at least one. In October 2024, he gave his grandson, Carter, an Instagram shoutout for volunteering during a natural disaster in Tampa. Flair wrote, “So proud of my grandson Carter who is currently on the frontlines working during the hurricanes with power pros! Love you so much, and I’m such a proud grandfather!”
