Actress Reese Witherspoon has cleared up a lingering claim that she was in a “feud” with Kate Winslet.
It’s not true, she said in an Instagram story.
The speculation started when Witherspoon told Will Ferrell in a video published by People that she gave such an embarrassing speech at an award show that she and the actress she was presenting it to were “not friends anymore.”
According to People, she added, “not even kidding. She doesn’t talk to me anymore,” which sparked a round of Internet speculation that she was referring to Winslet.
After that speculation, Witherspoon recorded an Instagram story to clear it all up, insisting that she and Winslet are “good friends.”

In the Instagram story, Witherspoon addressed the controversy head-on.
“Hey guys .. just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet,” Witherspoon wrote. “We are good friends and have never had any falling out.”
On another slide in the Instagram story, Witherspoon, “This is completely UNTRUE …so silly!”
The slides included headlines of news stories reporting on the supposed feud. The story was still visible on Witherspoon’s page on February 1. She has 30 million Instagram followers.
Witherspoon’s story also included clips from a Kelsea Ballerini concert and promotional screenshots for her new movie.
Reese Witherspoon Made the Initial Comments to Will Ferrell
People Magazine published the clip of comedian Will Ferrell interviewing Witherspoon and Witherspoon interviewing Ferrell. They recently worked together on a movie called “You’re Cordially Invited.”
They spoke in the interview about appearing on “Saturday Night Live” together in the past.
Asked about her first impression of Ferrell, Witherspoon said he was a good singer.
She then segued to talking about the awards speech that sparked all of the controversy.
She described the actress in question, whom she did not name, as a “very serious proper actress” and a friend of hers.
Witherspoon said she thought the award ceremony was “like a roast. I got up and roasted her,” but she said the tone was actually “British, elegant and classy,” whereas Witherspoon joked about laser hair removal.
“We’re not friends anymore,” Witherspoon said in that video. She said she thought it was funny. “It was pretty bad,” she said, adding “Oh well,” after claiming the unnamed person doesn’t talk to her anymore.
