Prince William revealed on a podcast that he once gave a gift to the then-Kate Middleton that didn’t go over very well.
William made the comments on the BBC Radio Five Live podcast with Peter Crouch. The podcast was recorded in 2020, but it’s been resurrected on multiple news sites for Christmas.
“I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once. She’s never let me forget that,” the Prince of Wales admitted on BBC Radio Five Live.
“I wrapped them. They were really nice. I was trying to convince myself about it. I was like, ‘But these are really amazing, look how far you can see!’ She was looking at me, going, ‘They’re binoculars. What’s going on?’ It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars,” the prince said on the podcast.
Prince William Said the Gift Occurred ‘Early on in the Courtship’
GettyWilliam gifted Kate the pair of binoculars early enough in their relationship.
“That was early on in the courtship that was — I think that sealed the deal,” he joked. “It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
The hosts joked that they weren’t sure how to “dress for the occasion.”
Prince William Also Talked About Mental Health Issues on the Podcast
GettyWilliam also opened up on the podcast about mental health issues, which is a topic that his estranged brother Prince Harry has been very vocal about.
We all have mental health, and we all have to stay mentally fit… It’s a strength to talk about your mental health. It’s not a weakness. You know if you’re not feeling well, something’s bothering you, talk about it — it’s not a problem,” he said.
Although they made public appearances, Kate and William celebrated the holidays early and at home in 2024, according to Page Six.
“No one could have expected what this year has brought for the Prince and Princess of Wales,” a source told Page Six. “Family is so important to them, and the children are the center of their universe.”
“They wanted to start celebrating early. They’re focused this Christmas [season] on being with the family at home and then joining the rest of the Windsor family on Christmas Day. The Prince of Wales has said this has been the hardest year of his life,” the source told Page S
