Jack Black Posts Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
On July 24, Black took to Instagram to share a short tribute to a man who influenced him greatly.
Along with Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne album cover photos, Black wrote: “Ozzy!!! Rest in peace you legend. Much love to the family and all those who love the incredible music you made.”
Fans lit up the comments section to share how much Osbourne meant to them as well.
“Ozzy was a huge influence to all of us and I’m so glad he influenced the legendary Jack Black. Ozzy was the Godfather of Metal and if that didn’t happen then maybe ‘School of Rock’ and ‘Pick of Destiny’ may never have happened,” one fan shared.
“R.I.P Ozzy, I’m still trying to get my head around it but so glad you started your career on a high and ended it on a high. Your farewell concert was PERFECT and you were PERFECT! Nobody will EVER come close to The Prince of Darkness,” they added.
Jack Black Inducted Ozzy Osbourne Into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
In 2024, Black was on hand to induct Osbourne into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
“Plumber, car horn tuner, slaughterhouse worker, the greatest frontman in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Ozzy Osbourne,” he said.
Black continued, “I remember the first time I heard of Ozzy. I was 13 years old, wandering around the record store … An older rock aficionado noticed my indecision, and he said, ‘Stop [expletive] around, kid. This is the album you need to get, The Blizzard of Ozz.’ Man, was he right!”
He noted, “Thank you, nameless rock aficionado, wherever you are, you changed my life. I remember looking at that album cover, at Ozzy’s face. Before I even heard the music, I was transfixed. He looked so cool, that rad white suit with the white fringe on the sleeves, that crazy look in his eyes, the skull, the cross — Holy [expletive]! … It was the most metal thing I’d ever seen, and I didn’t even know what metal was. He was teaching me. I didn’t realize I was entering a whole new world of heavy metal music.”
The actor shared, “I took that record home, and when the needle hit the vinyl, heaven opened up above me.”
Black recalled that first listen, noting the “explosion of colors in my brain” hearing “Crazy Train.” The “School of Rock” star shared, “‘Blizzard of Ozz’ was the best thing I’d ever heard. A heavy metal masterpiece.”
He added, “And Ozzy? That voice, it could cut through glass. Magic, joy, beauty.”
Black shared Osbourne’s other accomplishments, including earlier albums with Black Sabbath, later albums as a solo artist, “The Osbournes” reality show, and the Ozzfest heavy metal music festival.
