Sam Heughan has been part of one of the hottest couples on TV for more than a decade. Since 2014, Heughan and his “Outlander” co-star Caitriona Balfe have delighted fans with their passionate on-screen romance and amazing chemistry as Jamie and Claire Fraser. But when the cameras aren’t rolling, Heughan has always kept his love life extremely private.
Is ‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Married?
Heughan has given numerous interviews and walked many red carpets over the years. During that time, he’s been consistent about one thing: he never talks about his love life. His dating history remains a mystery. But we do know that the 45-year-old is not married.
It might be hard to believe, but there’s a chance that there’s not much dating history to discover. In 2020, Heughan told The Inquirer that he has always put his career first over his personal life.
“Certainly, relationships are hard when you’re working in Scotland 10 months a year. I travel a lot and any downtime I have, I’m trying to do other projects, so very much, my career comes first. Maybe I will find someone eventually,” Heughan said at the time.
Recent Dating Rumors Connect the ‘Outlander’ Star to a ‘Real Housewives of New York’
Heughan may not talk about his love life, but that doesn’t stop internet rumors. In early 2025, an insider claimed that Heughan was involved in a steamy makeout session with “Real Housewives of New York” star Brynn Whitfield at a popular London hotel.
“A RHONY is dating a hot Scot. They met while she was in London. Now she is on her way again,” a source told Deux Moi on Instagram.
“I work at Broadwick Soho hotel, Sam Heughan stayed here and tonight walked into Flute with [Brynn] from RHONY. They sat [in] the middle table and made out in front of the restaurant. Gave zero (expletive)that everyone was watching. Cheers.”
Before the Whitfield rumors, the last confirmed sighting of Heughan on a date was in May 2024 when People magazine reported that the “Outlander” star was seen walking hand-in-hand in London with an unnamed brunette.
Sam Heughan’s Past Relationships Are Few and Far Between
In March 2022, Heughan was spotted kissing another mystery woman. Reports claimed that he was getting cozy with a woman named Monika Clarke at Café Select in New York City’s Soho neighborhood.
Around that same time, When Drew Barrymore asked him if he was still single on her talk show, he remained vague and dodged her questions.
“I never said that [I’m single], I don’t think. The job is so all-encompassing and we spend so much time on set and at work. But I’m open to something. I’m not sure what I’m saying I’m open for, but I’m open,” Heughan said.
In 2018, Us Weekly reported that Heughan was officially dating “Twin Peaks” star Amy Sheals. At the time, multiple sources claimed that Heughan and Sheals had a 10-year “flirty friendship” that turned into something more.
From late 2016 until early 2018, Heughan was linked to North Carolina native MacKenzie Mauzy. Marie Claire reported in February 2018 that Heughan and Mauzy made their first public appearance together at an Oscar Party the previous year.
The one-time couple proceeded to show up again at various events in New York City, and paparazzi occasionally caught them out together. She also showed up on his social media from time to time. But, all of that suddenly stopped in the spring of 2018, and there’s been no sign since that they are still together.
