Outlander Fans Voice Concern for Jamie’s Fate After Diana Gabaldon’s Latest Reveal

Diana Gabaldon’s time-traveling, romantic saga “Outlander” is finally coming to an end. The book series began more than three decades ago, while the Starz TV show launched in 2014. Gabaldon is currently writing the 10th and final book in the series. Based on the books, the TV show is currently in production on its 8th and final season. Everyone is patiently waiting to find out how Jamie and Claire Fraser’s (Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) love story will end. But according to Gabaldon’s latest reveal, fans are starting to get concerned about Jamie’s fate.

Diana Gabaldon Is Still Writing the Final ‘Outlander’ Book

Gabaldon recently made a lengthy post on Facebook in which she finally revealed the title of her 10th and final book in the Outlander series. She made it clear (via all caps) that the book is not finished and doesn’t have a publication date because the publishers won’t set one until they have a full manuscript.

“I AM STILL WRITING IT. YES, I DO KNOW HOW IT ENDS. NO, I’M NOT TELLING YOU,” Gabaldon wrote. “NO, YOU CAN’T ORDER IT YET, BECAUSE THE PUBLISHERS DON’T HAVE PAGES SET UP FOR ORDERS BECAUSE THERE IS NO PUB DATE AND BECAUSE I HAVEN’T TOLD THEM WHAT THE BOOK IS CALLED.”

Is Jamie Fraser’s Fate Revealed in the Book Title?

After clarifying where she was in the writing process, Gabaldon shared the title of the final book in Jamie and Claire’s story.

“The title of Book Ten of the OUTLANDER series (and yes, this is the final book of the main series, though there may be other companion books and side stories, depending on how long I live…) is…A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT,” Gabaldon shared.

The author immediately addressed concerns that she knew fans would have about what the title meant. Is Jamie the “warrior” she referenced? If so, what does “going out” mean? Will he die at the end? Here is what Gabaldon had to say.

“NO, that doesn’t mean Jamie’s going to die. It’s not a death blessing, it’s the Blessing of St. Michael, said for a warrior about to go and do something important and possibly dangerous.  There are quite a few people in this book who qualify for that blessing, believe me…” Gabaldon explained.

Diana Gabaldon Shares an Excerpt From the Beginning of Book 10

It’s been more than three years since book nine, “Go Tell the Bees That I’m Gone,” was published. Gabaldon knows that many fans are anxious to find out what will happen next, so she shared a small excerpt from the beginning of her upcoming book.

“Jamie rose slowly from his chair on the porch—not using his stick, I saw—and drew himself up, eyes fixed on William.

William himself was still on his horse, the two of them mud-spattered, windblown and breathing hard.  I saw his throat move as he swallowed, evidently preparing to repeat what he’d said a moment before.

‘Sir—I need your help.’

But Jamie was moving, going down the steps. I could hear his left knee crack with each step, but he didn’t flinch or limp.  He reached William and put a hand on his arm.

‘You have it,’ he said simply.  ‘Come in.'”

The first seven seasons of “Outlander” are now streaming on Starz, Hulu, and Netflix.
