No one likes to be interrupted when they’re talking, especially if you’re in the middle of an interview. But when a tiny, adorable dog is doing the interrupting, all is forgiven. Such was the case when Orlando Bloom’s teacup poodle, Biggie Smalls, began crying for his human companion while he was in the middle of talking to Savannah Guthrie on “Today.”
Bloom Introduces ‘Biggie Smalls’ After Surprise Bark: ‘My Emotional Support’
Bloom joined Guthrie on the June 9th episode of “Today” to talk about his upcoming projects. But as she’s asking him about how he feels about still working consistently 24 years since his breakout role of Legolas in “The Lord of the Rings,” a dog begins barking.
They both look in the direction of the noise, but then try to ignore it. When it becomes apparent that it’s not stopping, Bloom decides to introduce his beloved dog, Biggie Smalls, to the world. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star tells Guthrie that he takes Biggie everywhere with him, but that “he’s usually quiet as a mouse.”
Dakota Johnson is holding him off-stage and carries him over to Bloom, while he jokes that she’s “stealing” him. She laughs it off and says she’s “just the nanny.” The actor calls Biggie his “emotional support animal,” as the dog snuggles up into his arms.
Bloom begins telling Guthrie about his new movie, “The Cut,” a psychological drama co-starring John Turturro and “Outlander’s” Caitríona Balfe. As he explains that he plays an Irish boxer who must lose 30 pounds in a week, Biggie barks again. The conversation then turns back to Biggie, and he must enjoy his moment in the spotlight.
“Honestly, he has a face for stardom,” Guthrie says as they finish the interview.
Orlando Bloom Honored Another Beloved Dog Following His Passing
Bloom and his longtime partner, Katy Perry, are huge animal lovers and have several dog companions. One of his favorites was another teacup poodle named Mighty. He frequently posted photos of the adorable dog on social media.
At the end of July, Mighty went missing, and Bloom was heartbroken. “The bond between Mighty and I shows devotion in ways I have not truly understood until now,” he captioned an Instagram photo of the two of them.
After a week of searching, Mighty’s collar was found, and it was determined that he was dead. To commemorate the love and bond he felt for his lost best friend, Bloom got the world ‘Mighty’ tattooed over his heart, along with an ace of spades symbol enclosed in a heart.
