Nicole Kidman is returning to the small screen with a new drama series based on Eliza Jane Brazier’s novel “Girls and Their Horses”. The Oscar winner will star in and executive produce the upcoming Prime Video series with showrunner Jenna Lamia, in partnership with Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios, according to People.
Set in Southern California, the story follows the Parker family, whose daughters enter the competitive world of horseback riding at a prestigious equestrian center in Rancho Santa Fe. Kidman will play the family’s matriarch, Heather Parker. As the Parkers get swept up in the glamorous yet cutthroat world of showjumping, buried secrets and tensions start to surface—leading to a murder that shakes the community.
The project marks another book-to-TV collaboration for Kidman, who previously starred in and produced “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers”. Brazier, a competitive horseback rider herself, will write the pilot and serve as an executive producer. No additional casting has been announced yet.
What Is ‘Girls and Their Horses’ About?
“Girls and Their Horses” is described as a dark, twisty story set in the high-pressure world of elite equestrian competition, per Amazon. After moving to a wealthy community for a fresh start, Heather Parker signs her daughters up for lessons at Rancho Santa Fe Equestrian—where horses are more than a sport, they’re a status symbol.
Heather quickly becomes a “Barn Mom,” bonding with other wealthy women over wine, gossip, and prepping their daughters for summer horse shows. But underneath the polished exterior, the barn is filled with tension, cliques, and hidden rivalries.
As the big show approaches, drama unfolds both on and off the field. The stakes get even higher when someone turns up dead, and everything the Parkers thought they knew starts to unravel.

With Brazier, Lamia, and Kidman on board, “Girls and Their Horses” is already gaining attention as one of the buzziest upcoming titles on Prime Video. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, fans of thrillers like Big Little Lies may want to keep this one on their radar.“
Girls and Their Horses” also caught attention when it was featured as a “Read With Jenna” pick by Today host Jenna Bush Hager in 2023. At the time, Hager praised the novel on Instagram, calling it “a thriller you won’t be able to put down this summer,” and congratulated Brazier for crafting a must-read.
