Actress, activist and philanthropist Mary Tyler Moore died January 25 due to complications with pneumonia, ET reported.

The report said her death was caused by cardiopulmonary arrest after she had contracted pneumonia. She had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes during the run of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and also suffered from alcoholism, she wrote in a memoir. In 2011, Moore underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor.

Following her death, told The Huffington Post reported:

Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile.

Moore starred as Dick Van Dyke’s wife in the “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and was the lead character during the 1970s in the The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She spent much of her time not only acting in movies, but also active in philanthropy and many other endeavors.
