Lindsay Lohan is officially back, and she’s bringing all of the nostalgia with her. The “Freaky Friday” sequel, aptly titled “Freakier Friday,” is due to be released in August of 2025, reuniting her with the one and only Jamie Lee Curtis. For Lohan, it seems, stepping back into this role feels less like work and more like coming home.
A Nostalgic Reunion
It’s been over 20 years since Lohan and Curtis first swapped bodies in the 2003 Disney classic, “Freaky Friday,” but their chemistry hasn’t faded one bit. Curtis’ commented that “For me it feels like no time has passed… We both get to play moms,” according to Entertainment Weekly. While Lohan shared how effortless it felt to step back into character, saying, “It doesn’t even feel like work.” and noting that this film felt “more fun, it’s more emotional.” She then told Curtis, “Seriously the only reason we are back here doing this is because of you.” That kind of genuine excitement is exactly what fans want to hear.
Directed by Golden Globe winner and an Emmy nominee, Nisha Ganatra, “Freakier Friday” will see Anna (Lohan) all grown up, now dealing with her own teenage daughter; and, of course, another round of magical body-swapping chaos. The film promises to blend humor, heart, and a fresh take on modern family life, all while keeping that signature “Freaky Friday” charm intact.
Who Else Is Coming Back?
Alongside Lohan and Curtis, fans of “Freaky Friday” will recognize Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Lucille Soong who are all reprising their roles in “Freakier Friday.” The new film will also star a few up-and-comers: Manny Jacinto from “The Good Place” and “The Acolyte,” Julia Butters from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” Sophia Hammons from “Under Wraps,” and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from “Never Have I Ever.”
And if you grew up belting out “Take Me Away” into a hairbrush, get ready; because Pink Slip is making a comeback. Lohan confirmed that Anna’s fictional band is back for the sequel, adding another layer of nostalgia to the film. And according to Curtis (who also spoke with EW), there’s also a new song in the movie, which she said was. “in my ear like one of those Star Trek earworms.” The actress went on to say she thinks “it’s going to be a monster hit” but isn’t saying “what it’s called because we’re in the middle of making it.” She also noted that “there are some old favorites played in this movie.” No pressure for Lohan, right?
How You Can See The Film
Beyond the music and body-swapping antics, “Freakier Friday” is shaping up to be more than just a fun sequel. It’s a celebration of how much Lohan and Curtis (and their characters) have grown over the years. Lohan told EW, “Anna is grown up now. She has a teenage daughter, so there’s a lot going on in that relationship.” She then explained the film has “a lot of love in it.”
For longtime fans, this movie isn’t just about reliving an early 2000s favorite; it’s about seeing these characters (and actors) evolve while keeping that same magic alive. If the on-screen reunion is anything like the love and excitement happening behind the scenes, “Freakier Friday” might just be the perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling.
