Netflix is giving fans of comedian Leanne Morgan a sneak peek at her upcoming sitcom.
The self-titled show “Leanne” is set to debut on the streaming service on July 31 with 16 episodes.
The Netflix landing page for the show describes the plot, “When her husband leaves her for another woman, a resilient Southern mom starts over with the support of her loving, but unfiltered family.”
The series co-creator is Chuck Lorre, who has created hits like “The Big Bang Theory,” “Young Sheldon,” and “Two and a Half Men.”
In a Netflix press release, Lorre says, “If you’ve seen even 10 seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand-up, then you know what a unique comedic force she is. The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and I’m so excited to bring this story to Netflix.”
Leanne Morgan Says Sitcom is a ‘Dream Come True’
Netflix released some pictures from the set of the show, which co-stars Kristen Johnston (“Mom,” “Third Rock from the Sun”) Celia Weston, Tim Daly (“Madam Secretary,” “Wings”) Blake Clark, Ryan Stiles, Graham Rogers and Hannah Pilkes.
In the Netflix press release, Leanne said, “I’ve dreamed of this since childhood, and I can’t believe it has come true! When I started comedy 25 years ago, my goal was to be a part of a sitcom. It just goes to show you it’s never too late, and dreams do come true. I’m a grandmama from Tennessee, and now I have a TV show with Chuck Lorre and Netflix. What in the world!?”
Leanne Morgan Guest Hosts on ‘Today With Jenna and Friends’
Before her sitcom debut, Leanne Morgan tried her hand at morning news.
The comedian guest hosted alongside Jenna Bush Hager on “Today with Jenna and Friends” for a few days during the first week of June.
Leanne talked about her new sitcom with Jenna, sharing an exclusive sneak peek of the show. She revealed to Jenna that she even has a love interest on the show, played by “Madam Secretary” star Tim Daly.
“Were you nervous?” Jenna asked. Leanne replied, “I was so nervous that, OK, I’ve been wearing natural deodorant for a long time..” “Well, it’s good for you!” Jenna chimed in. “It’s good for you, but it’s a lie, you know, Jenna it really doesn’t work…” Leanne responded. “My baby is my makeup artist and the first time I kissed Tim, and I had pitted out and she said ‘you smell like a shallot,” she went on as Jenna cracked up.
Leanne admitted kissing someone new was awkward. “I kissed his bottom teeth, because let me tell you, I haven’t kissed anybody but Chuck Morgan in 34 years… and I had to say to Chuck Morgan, ‘I’m kissing Tim Daly this episode, does that bother you?’ and he went ‘no’ because Chuck Morgan wants me to make money, that’s it!” Jenna laughed and added, “And Chuck Morgan loves you and he knows you love him.” To which LeAnne replied, “And he knows that I’m in menopause and that I’m not out cattin’ around and doing vulgar things.”
She also hilariously helped Jenna solve some viewer problems.
Leanne Morgan’s Family Will Appear on ‘Family Feud’
Even Leanne Morgan’s family is getting in on the act! The comedian put up a post on Instagram showing that she, husband Chuck and their three children Tess (27), Maggie (30) and Charlie (31) recently taped an episode of “Family Feud.”
In the caption, she wrote, “My family is making their TV debut! Look for the Morgan Family – competing for charity on a TV near you SOON! 🙃😆 Stay tuned for details!”
No air date for the episode has been released.
If all of that isn’t keeping the comedian busy enough, she continues her “Just Getting Started Tour” with 51 tour dates running through October as of now. At her June 21 show in Wilmington, North Carolina, Leanne will tape a new Netflix special. Find details and tickets here.
