Lady Gaga Reveals Why Her Fiancé Proposed With a Blade of Grass

Lady Gaga is excited about her long-awaited album “Mayhem” but is also head over heels for her fiancé, Michael Polansky, and busy planning their wedding. “I’m desperately trying to keep that so private,” Gaga told E! News, “but I would say I can promise that it will be the best day of my life.” While she’s mum about when exactly that will be, she does give a glimpse into their relationship and his endearing proposal.

The Couple Wrote a Song About the Proposal

In the interview, Lady Gaga discussed her new album and the origins of the love song “Blade of Grass,” which she wrote with Polansky. “He said to me, ‘If I ever proposed to you, how do I do that?’ And I said, ‘Just get a blade of grass from the backyard and wrap it around my finger.’ And he did. He did that when he proposed.”

The couple co-wrote the love song “Blade of Grass,” which appears on “Mayhem” with a dedication from Gaga. She talked about its importance at Spotify’s Little Monster Press Conference. “It’s special because every time I hear it, Michael and I, when we did the bridge together, I said, ‘I’ll give you something, and it’s no diamond ring,’ and he said, ‘The air that I’m breathing.'”

That blade of grass? Gaga revealed to BBC that the small, green ring she wears is the same grass blade Polansky proposed with, preserved in resin. He also gave her a traditional engagement ring. Designed by Sofia Jewelry, the ring is a mixture of 18k white gold and rose gold, along with an oval diamond. The band is embellished with pink ombré diamonds.

Her Fiancé Encouraged Her to Make a New Pop Album

Polansky, who co-wrote seven songs on Gaga’s new album, helped inspire her to start making new music. “She’s someone who is happiest when she’s creating. It’s one of the qualities I love most about her,” Polansky told Vogue. “But I see her enjoying it so much more than she did when I met her back in 2019.”

In an interview with Good Morning America, Gaga talks about her newfound strength in making “Mayhem” after several years of listening to naysayers and doubting herself. “As a woman in music, there was a lot of people that were like, ‘Oh, this is who made her’ or ‘This is what made her,'” she said. “I think that returning to pop music for me was a little bit something I was afraid of because I wondered if I was believing what those people were saying.”

But with a boost in her self-confidence and the support of her fiancé and best friend, she returned to the studio. “He just loves the whole me,” she said. “I learn a lot from him. He’s so supportive. He’s got an incredibly kind heart.”
