King Charles Issues 1st Public Statement Since Cancer Setback

King Charles III has issued his first public statement since his cancer setback, and it’s about the earthquake in Myanmar.

“My wife and I were most dreadfully shocked and saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, with its tragic loss of life and appalling damage to homes, buildings and livelihoods, not to mention the destruction of sacred pagodas, monasteries and other places of worship,” he said in the statement on his Instagram story.

The tragic quake has killed more than 1,600 people, according to CNN.

According to Fox News, Charles underwent a “brief hospitalization due to side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment.”

However, he was seen in public on Friday, March 28, 2025, in the wake of that treatment, according to Fox News, which published a photo showing Charles riding in a car.

The British monarch waved to the public as his car passed, Fox News reported. According to the network, Charles canceled several engagements on Thursday and Friday because of the hospitalization.

The prognosis and specific cancer diagnosis for King Charles have not been released by the palace. His daughter-in-law Catherine is also dealing with her own cancer battle.

“Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,” the palace said of the King’s hospitalization, according to Fox News. Were something to happen to Charles, his son, Prince William, would ascend to the British throne. After William, his son Prince George is next in line.
