Things will kick off at 9:30 Eastern Time, according to Blue Origin.
Jeff Bezos had a special message for the crew, saying, “I love you all and I can’t wait to hear how it’s changed you when you get back.”
Along with King and Perry, the Amazon founder’s fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, is on board the craft.
Four mothers are on board, and even a grandmother.
Gayle King said about the flight, “As excited as I am, I’ll be very glad when we come back down.”
She revealed her decision to partake in the daring adventure was inspired in part by some wise words she was once given by LL Cool J: “Dreams don’t have deadlines.”
The travelers will accelerate to 3Gs, compared to the 1G we experience her on earth, according to reporters on the Blue Origin livestream.
The women will get to unbuckle and enjoy weightlessness and “insane views” of space for approximately four minutes.
Maximum G forces will be felt on the descent, which will reach 5Gs. The pressure will then ease up before the parachutes are deployed and the astronauts come back down.
The craft is manned by the first all-female crew to go to space.
Oprah Winfrey Revealed How She Encouraged Her Best Friend Gayle King Before Space Launch
“I’ve never been more proud of my friend than today. This is bigger than just going to space,” said Oprah Winfrey.
“Anytime we’re on a flight, she’s in somebody’s lap if there’s a slight bit of turbulence,” the media mogul explained. She believes her friend is “ovecoming a fear” and the experience will be “cathartic.”
Winfrey went on, “Life is about continuing to grow into the best of yourself and the fullest of yourself. I felt deeply she would regret, and I didn’t wanna hear for the next 15 years ‘I wish I had gone.'”
Winfrey said her final words to her friend before the journey were, “Peace be still. Hold to God’s unchanging hand.”
The HARPO founder finished with, “None of us will ever forget this day.”
Winfrey, wearing a bright yellow sweater, clutched her chest and stared at the sky as the rocket hurtled towards the atmosphere.
