Katie Holmes Reunites with Joshua Jackson On Screen

It’s the reunion fans have been manifesting since “Dawson’s Creek” unfortunately faded to black in 2003. Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson, yes, the beloved Joey and Pacey of WB teen drama royalty, are stepping back in front of the camera together. And this time, they’re not just rehashing teenage angst. Nope, they’re grown, complicated, and ready to dive headfirst into a new story in “Happy Hours.” It’s a new romantic dramedy trilogy written and directed by Holmes herself.

Announced via Deadline and later confirmed by Holmes on social media, “Happy Hours” will see the duo play former young lovers who cross paths again as adults. The trilogy promises to unpack life’s big changes, such as careers, family responsibilities, regrets, and that stubborn thing called love that just doesn’t go away. Holmes called it “a love story that includes so many people I adore,” adding, “Working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship.”

Their chemistry? Undeniable. Their timing? Impeccable. The project is scheduled to begin filming this summer in New York City, with the second and third installments lined up to follow shortly after. Honestly, we can’t wait for this one! It’s a blast from the past!

From Capeside to Camera in ‘Happy Hours’

For those who need a little refresher or those who just need a little nostalgia boost, Holmes and Jackson first shared the screen in the 1998 breakout hit “Dawson’s Creek.” There, Holmes played bookish girl-next-door Joey Potter and Jackson stole hearts as the lovable rebel Pacey Witter. What started as a slow-burn romance turned into one of television’s most iconic teen love stories, and it still sparks heated debates on social media.

Off-screen, the two actors shared a brief romance during the show’s early seasons. While their dating days didn’t last, their professional respect and palpable on-screen spark never fizzled. In fact, Holmes has often referred to Jackson as her “first love” in interviews. And now, two decades later, they’re proving the magic’s still there.

Holmes, who rose to major film fame with “First Daughter” and “Batman Begins,” has spent recent years stepping behind the camera with projects like “All We Had” and “Rare Objects.” She’s also taken part on Broadway, recently starring in Thornton Wilder’s Our Town alongside Zoey Deutch. “Happy Hours” marks her fourth directorial effort and now, arguably, her most high-profile one yet.

Jackson, meanwhile, has kept busy with critically acclaimed roles in “The Affair,” “Dr. Death,” and most recently, “Doctor Odyssey.” He also joined the “Karate Kid: Legends” film alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, proving he’s not afraid to bounce between drama and action. Or, you know, teen nostalgia and high-stakes medicine.

The Dream Team Behind the Scenes

Produced by Maven Screen Media and Bond Street Station in association with STX Films and Crown Productions, “Happy Hours” has serious indie pedigree. Also joining the cast are Constance Wu, Mary-Louise Parker, Donald Webber Jr., Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin. Safe to say it’s an ensemble stacked with talent.

As Holmes put it, the project is “a story filled with hope, love, and people finding their way.”

There’s no official release date yet, but production on the first film begins this summer. And while we’re not holding out hope for Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want to Wait” to blast through the credits, we are preparing our hearts for a story that feels just familiar enough to wreck us. Of course, in the best way possible!

So grab your wine, dust off your “Dawson’s Creek” DVDs, and get emotionally prepared. Holmes and Jackson are back, and this time, they’re bringing years of real-life and screen-life history with them.

Joey and Pacey 2.0? Not exactly, but something just as satisfying. Maybe even more!
