Joshua Jackson Tells Kelly Clarkson About What He Learned From Emilio Estevez

Joshua Jackson has shared the life lessons that his co-star Emilio Estevez taught him while they were filming the classic “The Mighty Ducks.”

“I, kind of, learned how to be on set from Emilio because I didn’t know any of this stuff,” Jackson, 46, said on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on March 11. “I was just a child.”

Estevez played Jackson’s coach in the original movie and its sequels. Jackson shared to Brooke Shields, who was filling in for Clarkson, how some of Estevez’s advice came during filming of the second movie in the franchise.

Joshua Jackson Says Emilio Estevez Scolded Him for Ignoring People Seeking His Autograph

Jackson told an anecdote about Estevez keeping him in line.

“We had this whole sequence,” Jackson said. “We were actually at the pond, the professional rink. There was about to be a professional team. One day, we had 20,000 people. Literally, they filled the arena for us to play hockey.”

He told Shields, “When I was coming off, I don’t know why — either I was just being a little (expletive) or I was tired or whatever — but there was a bunch of people waiting for autographs, and I just blew past them to go to the locker room.”

That’s when Estevez stepped in. “He’s like, ‘Don’t ever do that again,’” Jackson told Clarkson, adding that Estevez said: “Why do you think you get to go out there and skate in front of all these people?”

In the interview, Jackson also said that Estevez explained his stance.

“Do not ever forget who it is that you’re here for,” Jackson said Estevez told him.

“It was a really important reframing for my 15-year-old self. Of just remember who you are and what’s actually important.”

A fan wrote on the “Kelly Clarkson Show” comment thread that Estevez practices what he preached.

“Emilio’s kid(s) went to a neighboring private school growing up, and our schools often played scrimmage games against one another. Emilio came to every game and signed autographs for EVERY kid who asked, while trying to not draw attention to himself. We loved getting to see him. ❤️” the fan wrote.

Another person wrote of Jackson, “He doesn’t forget! I met him in New York when he was doing children of a lesser god and politely walked the line of the people who waited after the show to meet him, signed every playbill and took photos. So polite and gracious and just as handsome in real life. I was dying.”
