Fans of the hit NBC show “Superstore” are saying goodbye to Jon Miyahara, as he has sadly passed away. He played Brett in the series and appeared in 113 episodes throughout its six-season run. Miyahara was 83 years old when he passed, and no cause of death has been identified.
Miyahara was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1941. In addition to “Superstore,” he also appeared in an episode of “Holding Tight” in 2022.
His Co-Star First Announced Miyahara’s Passing
One of Miyahara’s co-stars from the “Superstore” show first announced that he had passed. Colton Dunn posted to Instagram on August 6, saying, “John Miyahara, aka Brett from Superstore, has sadly passed away. John was a really awesome guy, and as a performer, could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team.”
He continued, “It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family, and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace, John.” Many of his co-stars from “Superstore” also took to the comments on Instagram to offer kind words following his passing.
Kelly Stables said in the comments, “Oh man! He was always so sweet! Rest in peace.” Irene White commented, “What an incredible man.” Michael Bunin said, “I’m so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy.”
Miyahara’s daughter, Pennie Cappasola, later confirmed the news of her father’s passing to PEOPLE. There is no official statement from the family, but she told the outlet, “He loved working on Superstore.”
Cappasola, his middle daughter, stated that Miyahara passed away with his wife, Chiyo, by his side.

Miyahara didn’t play one of the lead characters on “Superstore.” Despite this, the beloved actor left a real mark on fans. As a result, many are posting heartfelt messages about him on social media. In fact, many referred to him as a “scene stealer.”
