“The Office” star John Krasinski would 100% step back into the beloved role of Jim Halpert if given the opportunity.
While attending the New York City premiere of his new film “Fountain of Youth,” Krasinski told Extra he is fully on board for a cameo on the new spinoff titled “The Paper.”
“Done!” he said without hesitation. “If they ask me, I’m in.”
The mockumentary ran for nine seasons and followed a group of workers at a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The cast included Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, B.J. Novak, Angela Kinsey and Mindy Kaling.
Since 2019, Fischer (who played Pam) and Kinsey (who played Angela) have had a successful podcast called “Office Ladies” where they rewatch the hilarious sitcom and give additional details on the filming of each episode.
‘The Paper’ Is Set to Premiere Later This Year
The new spinoff was created by former “Office” showrunner Greg Daniels and “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The show will use the same mockumentary style, but will instead follow a newspaper in Toledo, Ohio, led by actor Domhnall Gleeson.
Daniels explained how the show will focus on trying to turn around a struggling legacy newspaper.
“A lot of the story lines are about how this guy, Domhnall Gleeson’s character, is trying to restore this paper, and he just doesn’t have the budget for hiring reporters, and he has to use all the staff that work there on a volunteer basis to be reporters,” he said.
While the show will have a new set of faces, there is already one “Office” alum that will be reprising their role.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed in February Oscar Nuñez is stepping back into the role of Oscar Martinez. However, it remains unknown why Martinez will be with the newspaper.
The show is set to air on Peacock in September.
Krasinski Praises the Spinoff
The 45-year-old told Extra he can’t wait to see the new spinoff.
“I’m excited to see what they do with it. It’s such an amazing idea, and listen if Greg [Daniels] is behind it, we’re all in,” he said. “And you can’t get a better actor than [Domhnall] to take on the mantle. He’s so, so great.”
Krasinski continued with his praise of the “Ex Machina” actor and mentioned he wouldn’t be surprised if watch parties returned as a result of the new show.
“He’s going to be so perfect for it, and we’ll probably start doing watch parties again just to watch them,” he concluded.
