One of Jessica Alba‘s former costars is acknowledging that he probably aggravated her with some overly rambunctious behavior onset.
The revelation stems from an an encounter that happened in 1999, when Alba was still a young up-and-comer slated to star across from Devon Sawa in the teen horror comedy “Idle Hands.
In the film, Sawa stars as a lazy high school student who wakes up one Halloween morning to find that his hand has become possessed. Alba plays Molly, the teenage rebel’s crush who is also inconveniently a target of the menacing hand, which commits devilish acts over which he has no control.
Devon Sawa Recalled How Jessica Alba’s Costars Hilariously Annoyed Her On Set Of 1999 Movie
Us Weekly reported on February 28, 2025, that Sawa spoke exclusively to the magazine about what it was like being onset with Alba.
Sawa explained to the mag that while he and some other cast members, including Vivica A. Fox and Seth Green, didn’t take the job all that seriously, Alba saw the project as a potentially “big moment” for her career, and didn’t seem to appreciate her castmates’ silliness behind the scenes.
Us quoted Sawa as saying, “We were all goofing. We were all, like, teenagers and we were all goofing around and it was hard to get us to focus but Jessica was like, ‘This is it. I’m doing this thing.’ She was focused.”
Sawa went on to acknowledge that the “Fantastic Four” actress’s laser-focus paid off, conceding, “Jessica’s Jessica now!”
Despite the apparent personality clash during the shoot, Sawa made sure to make it clear that he has nothing but admiration for his former costar, telling the publication, “You could tell she was on a mission. She was focused and we were all just hard to deal with. But she’s a sweetheart, and I haven’t seen her in a very long time. And I would love to see her again.”
Sawa also showed love to another former colleague. Us says their question about whether he would like to work again with Jonathan Taylor Thomas elicited a smile. The pair of actors portrayed brothers in the wholesome 1997 comedy “Wild America.”
Us says Sawa recapped his most recent conversation with Thomas by saying, “I spoke to him a few years ago and it was so good to hear his voice. He sounds kind of the same, a little older, obviously. But he’s doing well and I love that dude. That was a wonderful experience.”
Sawa Also Reminisced Another Costar
Us says the “Heart Eyes” star exclaimed, “Oh God, this is going to be all over the place now!” after mentioning another costar, Christina Ricci.
Sawa said he would happily work with the “Yellowjackets” star again. He told the magazine if the duo did a romantic comedy, “we would make like $50 million in the first weekend.”
In 1995, the pair memorably starred together in the coming of age drama “Now And Then”
They also lit up the screen the same year in “Casper.”
In 2022, Sawa reacted to a podcast appearance in which Ricci called her performance in the beloved teen classic “terrible.”
Speaking to E! at the time, he said he could relate to her sentiments, and named his own film “Little Giants” as a project where his performance makes him cringe.
