There are a million ways to show your love to someone. It can be as small as holding their hand, or as big as nursing them back to health after a serious accident or health issue. In a recent TikTok video, comedian Margaret Cho revealed that, after witnessing a sweet interaction between Jay Leno and his wife, that’s the kind of love she wants.
Margaret Cho Reveals It Was the ‘Most Romantic Thing’ She’s Ever Seen
“The legit most romantic thing I’ve ever seen was a little while ago,” Cho began. She explained that she and Jay Leno performed together at a comedy club, and Leno had brought his wife, Mavis, who has dementia.
“We were in the green room and I had my dog, and Mavis wanted to say hi to my dog. So I brought my dog over,” she continued. “Jay was leaning down, and just kind of whispering in her ear. Just kind of saying things like, ‘Oh, do you want to say hi to the dog?’ Understanding that she had some difficulty with what was going on in the room and a little bit of confusion, and he was getting ahead of it. By really quietly leaning over and explaining to her what was happening.”
As Cho explained the interaction, she started to tear up. “The romance of that, that’s love. We always see these big, grand expressions of love on social media, where people are taking you on these whirlwind vacations. And like, going on a yacht, going to Paris, whatever.”
Margaret Cho Praises Jay Leno’s ‘Beautiful’ Romance With His Wife
Leno recently opened up about the challenges involved with caring for Mavis following her dementia diagnosis. But he admitted that he’d “rather be with her than doing something else.”
“I enjoy the time with my wife,” he told Graham Bensinger on his podcast. “I go home, I cook dinner for her, watch TV, it’s OK. It’s basically what we did before, except now I have to feed her and do all the things. But I like it. I like taking care of her.”
For Cho, watching Leno be so gentle and patient with his wife, ensuring she understood what was going on, was the ultimate expression of true love.
“That is your man who is taking you out to the comedy club and bringing you around,” she said. “I’m sure it could be so easy to put somebody that has dementia in a facility. Or put them at home, and you could just go out. But he’s bringing her around. And whenever she’s having a moment, he just leans down and explains to her what’s going on.”
“To me, that’s romance, may that love find me,” Cho continued. “How beautiful. That’s…. yeah. What a man.”
