Actor James Woods broke down in tears on CNN as he discussed his Los Angeles, California-area home, and a little girl’s offer of her piggybank to help him rebuild it after the Pacific Palisades fire.
“I’m 77 years old. I can’t walk up these hills. It’s like Mount Everett here,” Woods said. “It’s pretty steep.”
However, although Woods initially thought his home was destroyed, he later revealed that it was not.
“A miracle has happened. We managed to get to our property and our home, that we were told is gone forever, is still standing. In this hellish landscape ‘standing’ is relative, but smoke and other damage is not like the utter destruction around us. The view from our deck area,” he wrote on X.
Before he learned this fact, Woods started to get emotional and eventually broke down during the CNN interview. Woods later emotionally told CNN that his home was destroyed, saying, “One day you’re swimming in the pool and the next day it’s all gone.”
Woods was also moved by tears as he recounted how his wife’s 8-year-old niece “came out with a little piggy bank for us to rebuild our house.” Crying, Woods said, “I’m sorry. I’m usually – I thought I was stronger than this.”
On X, where he has posted updates, Woods wrote, “It tests your soul, losing everything at once, I must say.”
James Woods Shared a Video Showing the Flames Near His Home
Before it burned down, Woods shared a video on his Instagram page that showed the flames creeping close to his pool.
Woods took the opportunity on CNN to offer praise for first responders and firefighters who battled the blaze. “They’re great,” he said.
He also shared that he was concerned about his 94-year-old neighbor but “they found him. He’s in the hospital.”
Woods has also made numerous statements on his X page about the blaze.
Woods wrote on X, “To all the wonderful people who’ve reached out to us, thank you for being so concerned. Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully. I do not know at this moment if our home is still standing, but sadly houses on our little street are not.” He later reported that all of the smoke detectors were going off in his home.”
James Woods Described What Happened to His Home as ‘Truly Heartbreaking’
Woods posted a photo showing the view from his home before the fire. “I took this from the deck of our beautiful and much beloved home in the Palisades last night. Now all the fire and smoke alarms are going off on our iPhones. It’s truly heartbreaking,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
Woods also wrote on X, “We renovated a home after COVID and just finished last month. To all the lovely people offering care and love, I’ll say this. There is no possession as priceless as friends and good neighbors during a tragedy. I can’t believe the blessings we enjoy, and I am humbly grateful.”
He also wrote, “In the immortal words of Stephen Crane, which I roughly remember from my youth, and which I paraphrase: ‘The sun was pasted in the sky like a wafer.'”
