Ryan Seacrest just threw millions of American Idol viewers for a loop when he was bidding a heartfelt farewell. He then said “goodnight” to America before adding these two words – “For Now.”
So what does this mean? Is American Idol coming back with a new cast or on a new network? What is going on and why is Seacrest toying with our emotions?

Perhaps Seacrest is developing a new singing competition show. With such a big production for the finale, American Idol has to be over, but this doesn’t mean it couldn’t come back as a new show. Thanks for the cliffhanger, Seacrest … Don’t worry, though. We’ve figured out what’s going on. Apparently, show creator Simon Fuller has a revival in the works.
Fuller told The Hollywood Reporter he’s already planning the “next generation” American Idol, explaining:
There will no doubt be another format or refinement or elevation of the format. Now I can actually revamp it and come up with a new version. And we can look back on 15 seasons and think of some legitimate ways to allow people to enjoy them again, maybe adding another dimension to it.
So, the original Idol may be gone, but it sounds like there’s definitely a revival coming to us in the future.
