For the past two years, fans have been wondering if Brandy’s character, Karla Wilson, would appear in the newly rebooted “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Jennifer Love Hewitt was returning as Julie and Freddie Prinze. Jr. as Ray, so there was hope. Fans waited for an announcement, but none came.
Director Kaytin Robinson wasn’t revealing anything, either, telling People, “You’ll have to go see the movie.” Then adding somewhat cryptically, “All the things that you want to see in this movie, you’re going to see in this movie.”
As it turns out, she was correct. Everyone who stayed for the mid-credits scene discovered that, not only is Karla alive and well, but possibly showing up in the next “I Know What You Did Last Summer” installment. Hewitt couldn’t be more excited.
Brandy’s Appearance Hints That She’ll Be in the Next Film

“It’s really cool,” Hewitt told Variety about Brandy returning for a very intriguing mid-credits scene. “It is what naturally should be done with Karla and Julie. I think they still have a lot of story to tell.”
In the scene, Karla is shown watching news coverage of the recent Southport Fisherman killings. A man appears and asks her, “Isn’t that your college roommate?”
“Yes,” Karla replied. “People are always trying to kill that woman. I hope she’s in therapy.” Seconds later, there’s a knock at the door, and Karla opens the door to a worried-looking Julie.
“Julie! Oh my God, it’s been years!” Karla says. “I was watching the news, and you can’t catch a damn break!”
Julie tells her, “I need your help,” and we see that she’s holding a photo of Karla with her face crossed out and a note reading “It isn’t over.”
Karla says to her, “Who do we have to [expletive] up this time?” And the credits begin again.
Jennifer Love Hewitt Was Thrilled Julie’s ‘Ride or Die’ Returned
Us Weekly shared a clip from Hewitt’s appearance on the July 22 episode of Tommy DiDario‘s “I’ve Never Said This Before” podcast, in which Hewitt discussed her excitement about Brandy’s return.
“There were eight or nine times we would look at each other for a second and Brandy would be like, ‘Whoa.’ And I was like, ‘Girl, here we are.’ We were girls squealing about the opportunity,” Hewitt said. “For Julie James, Karla is her ride or die. There is nobody who knows her entire story and is still alive or would stick with her through all of it and Karla is that person.”
“She advocated for herself to come back and I am really proud of her for advocating and doing that,” she continued. “It does set up an opportunity for there to be more Julie and Karla, hopefully, in the future of this franchise and that makes me so excited.”
