‘The Hunger Games’ Fans Are Already Packing Their Bags for London Stage Adaptation

Effie Trinket was right; the odds are definitely in our favor. “The Hunger Games” is getting a live stage adaptation, and it’s heading to London. The first-ever theatrical version of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling series will premiere on October 20, 2025, at the newly built Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre. Designed to fully immerse audiences in the world of Panem, this venue will bring the story to life like never before; introducing “The Hunger Games: On Stage.”

Bringing Panem to the Stage

According to People, award-winning playwright Conor McPherson (“Girl from the North Country”) is adapting the story for the stage, with Matthew Dunster directing. The creative team is going all in on making this a gritty, high-stakes experience, from Miriam Buether’s set design to Charlotte Broom’s choreography. Given how action-packed and emotionally intense “The Hunger Games” is, it’ll be interesting to see how they translate the story into live theater without losing its edge.

Tickets go on sale March 27, 2025, and previews start on October 20. Dunster, known for his work on things like “Doctor Faustus,” “National Theatre Live: Hangmen,” and “Judy,” described the adaptation as “taut and dangerous,” which sounds exactly like the kind of energy a “Hunger Games” stage show needs.

The books’ author Suzanne Collins has also voiced her excitement, saying that she’s “thrilled that The Hunger Games is in [their] hands” and that it is a “fantastic adaptation, which is quite unique from the screenplay.” She went on to explain how the stage format will offer fans a new way to experience the story.

Fans Are Already Losing It

As soon as the news broke, fans wasted no time sharing their enthusiasm. One fan summed it up perfectly (using all caps): “I’VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS.” Another joked, “Brb booking my flight and my tickets.” But the best comment came from someone tagging a friend saying, “let’s meet up for the first time in years to go see this together, back like we did the films 😆.”

A sneak peek at the acrobatics can be seen in the show’s first major Instagram post:

It’s no surprise that people are hyped; the “Hunger Games” fandom has been thriving since the books launched in 2008. And with the original movies, the released prequel (“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”), and another upcoming prequel (“Sunrise on the Reaping”) the franchise has only grown. The idea of watching Katniss, Peeta, and the brutal world of the Capitol unfold live on stage? Yeah, it’s a no-brainer why people are ready to book flights.

With a stacked creative team, a custom-built venue, and a story that still hits hard, this adaptation has all the makings of a must-see event. If you want to be part of it, mark your calendars, because tickets are going to go fast.
