Howard Stern Could Be Saying Goodbye to SiriusXM After 18 Years

Howard Stern’s future on SiriusXM could be coming to an end as his $500 million contract nears its expiration.

“Stern’s contract is up in the fall, and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don’t intend for him to take it,” the US Sun reported.

‘Never Going to Meet on the Money’

Stern launched the second version of “The Howard Stern Show” on SiriusXM in 2006. Now, it looks like their time together could be coming to an end, with the US Sun stating, “Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It’s no longer worth the investment.”

While Sirius may bargain for Stern’s library, the US Sun said, “But as far as him coming back to doing the show, there’s no way they can keep paying his salary. After you saw what happened with Stephen Colbert, it’s like they just can’t afford to keep him going.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Stern, 71, “may do a 1-2 year contract if they can meet him where he wants financially.” This would allow Stern to stay on the air a little longer and not “pull the plug” on his employees so abruptly.

The Daily Mail added that Stern would likely sell his catalog of shows to SiriusXM. This would allow them to replay them on channels Howard 100 and Howard 101.

While Stern’s controversial show used to bring in millions of listeners a day, his ratings have since declined to a reported 125,000 a day, according to the US Sun.

Shock Jock Pioneer

Stern became a household name during the 1980s after launching “The Howard Stern Show.” He was on the air for 20 years with New York City’s WXRK. It was there that his show became nationally syndicated into 60 markets, which included 20 million listeners at the show’s height.

Of course, he moved the show over to SiriusXM in 2006 and has been there ever since.

Stern was known as a shock jock, where he would discuss all sorts of taboo topics on his show. Later in his career, he became known for his more in-depth celebrity interviews.

The Many Hats of Howard Stern

While Stern has had a lucrative radio career, he has ventured out with other projects. He created a blockbuster movie, “Private Parts,” which was an autobiography of his wild rise to fame.

Stern has also gone on to publish several books, including a book form of his autobiography, “Private Parts.” From 2012 to 2015, he also served as a judge on “America’s Got Talent.”

He is currently married to actress, model, and animal rights activist Beth Ostrosky Stern, 53. They were married in 2008. Stern was previously married to Alison Berns from 1978 to 2001. The couple shares three daughters: Emily, Debra, and Ashley.
