Will Hilary Swank Return for ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 4? Here’s What We Know

A “Yellowjackets” star recently shared her thoughts on whether Hilary Swank will return for the show’s fourth season. Sammi Hanratty, who plays Misty Quigley in the series’ ‘90s timeline, told The New York Post, “She better be,” adding, “I’m like, I’m pretty sure she signed on for more so we’ve got to see you!”

Swank’s guest role on “Yellowjackets” was teased in the trailer for season 3, but fans had to wait until episode 8 for her appearance as Melissa, a surviving member of the Yellowjackets squad who faked her own death and assumed a new identity following the team’s rescue from the wilderness. 

Swank’s role was an important one, as the discovery that Melissa was alive in the show’s present-day timeline led to chaos for the other adult Yellowjackets. Melissa and Shauna, played by Melanie Lynskey, faced off in a brutal scene, and it was Melissa who was responsible for the shocking death of fan-favorite Van, played by Lauren Ambrose.

What Has Hilary Swank Said About Coming Back to Yellowjackets?

“Yellowjackets,” which also stars Christina Ricci, Sophie Thatcher, Liv Hewsom, and Tawny Cypress, is the story of a high school girls’ soccer team forced to resort to desperate (and disturbing) measures in order to survive after their plane crashes in the wilderness. Those who make it out alive are far from unscathed by their experience as they struggle to live normal lives as middle-aged adults. 

The show became a phenomenon after its premiere in 2021, but Swank has said she didn’t watch it before she was cast. “I can’t watch the show because it’s too intense for me,” she shared during an interview on “Today with Jenna & Friends.”

However, it seems her experience filming the series was a positive one and she told The New York Post she’d be open to coming back. “I really liked everybody a lot,” she said. “I feel like the writing’s really great and it’s a challenge…”

The season finale of “Yellowjackets” aired on April 11, 2025, and fans rejoiced when it was announced the show was renewed for another season on May 20. The finale concluded with a literal cliffhanger as the teens geared up for a possible chance at rescue and the adults were forming new alliances. 

Aside from letting it slip that Swank would likely be reprising her role in “Yellowjackets” season 4, Sammi Hanratty couldn’t say much about what else the show has in store. “I’m sure people will die,” she said. “I’m sure we’re going to eat some people but that’s all I’ve got for you.” But the show’s legions of fans probably guessed that already.
