George Clooney got more than lunch on his recent outing with wife Amal, according to Page Six.
While enjoying a meal at Raoul’s in New York City on Sunday, the 63-year-old actor turned heads with a striking change—a freshly dyed mane of brown hair, a bold and fresh shift from the iconic salt-and-pepper style he’s sported for years.
The transformation comes a month ahead of Clooney’s Broadway debut in “Good Night, and Good Luck,” a stage adaptation of the film in which he played a supporting role 20 years ago. This time, however, he’s stepping into the spotlight as the lead, portraying the renowned journalist Edward R. Murrow.

But not everyone may be excited about his “new do”, as Clooney told the New York Times, “My wife is going to hate it because nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair. My kids are going to just laugh at me nonstop.”
However, hair isn’t the only change he’s making.
Despite the fact that Murrow was a chain smoker — known for smoking up to 60 cigarettes a day until his lung cancer death at the age of 57 in 1965 — Clooney told the outlet he plans to give up his own nicotine habit and “switch to herbal cigarettes” ahead of opening night.
The “Ocean’s 11” has said previously lost eight uncles and aunts to lung cancer, including his aunt, singer and actress, Rosemary Clooney.
George Clooney Faces Broadway Jitters: ‘Hoping Not to Screw It Up’
In 2005, Clooney directed and co-wrote the original film version of “Good Night, and Good Luck,”, also taking on the role of CBS President Fred Friendly. When discussing the project’s transition to Broadway after 20 years, he explained to NBC New York that he has been attempting to launch this play for a long time, but it wasn’t until they assembled the right team for a reading that he was urged to play the lead.
Clooney shared his initial reluctance, telling the outlet, “I haven’t done a play in 40 years — literally 40 years … I was like, I’m too old and I haven’t ever done a Broadway play … I don’t think I can do it.”
But after some thought, said he realized, “If you’re nervous about that, you better do it. So, I’m hoping not to screw it up.”
How to See George Clooney’s New Play
Described as a “return to the golden age of journalism,” “Good Night, and Good Luck,” brings Murrow’s on-air showdown with Senator Joseph McCarthy to audiences as he and his news team “choose to confront the growing tide of paranoia and propaganda, even if it means turning the federal government and a worried nation against them.”
Directed by David Cromer, performances of “Good Night, and Good Luck” will begin with a preview on March 12 at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre — and opening night is set for April 3.
Orchestra tickets start at $159. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the show website.
