Fox Goes All In on Reality for Fall 2025, Scripted Shows Take Backseat

Extracted” was a big enough hit for Fox that it’s being brought back for a second season.

That’s according to the network as it releases its 2025 fall schedule. It must be noted early on that even though Fox was keen on scripted series in the 2024-2025 season, the network seems to be veering towards reality based fare.

The Sunday showcase of Animation Domination (which has “The Simpsons,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Family Guy” and others) is one of two nights featuring scripted shows. The other is Tuesday night which contains “Murder in a Small Town” and “Doc.”

NBC’s version of the Jane Lynch hosted “The Weakest Link” will be joining the Fox family after three seasons on its previous network. Not only that, but a new version of NBC’s “Fear Factor” dubbed “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” is on its way to Fox too. No word yet on if original series host Joe Rogan will return.

Actor Josh Charles will star in an hour long comedy called “Best Medicine” will pop up in mid-season. The show is an American take on the popular British series “Doc Martin.”

The logline is as follows: “‘Best Medicine’ centers on Martin Best (Charles), a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. Unfortunately, Martin’s blunt and borderline rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he’s all they’ve got.”

Speaking of mid-season, Fox has a slate of shows ready to return in 2026 including the return of “American Dad,” “Animal Control,” “Beat Shazam,” “Family Guy,” “The Masked Singer,” “Don’t Forget The Lyrics,” “Going Dutch,” “Grimsburg,” “Kitchen Nightmares,” and “Next Level Chef.”

Brand new shows “Best Medicine” and “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” will be joined by “The Faithful,” “Memory of a Killer,” and “Next Level Chef” spinoff “Next Level Baker.”

Fox recently canceled “9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Lone Star” and “Rescue: Hi-Surf.” The fates of dramas “Accused,” “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” “The Cleaning Lady;” dating show “Farmer Wants a Wife;” and Animation Domination’s “The Great North” have yet to be announced.
