Loyal Fans Show Support After Cancellations of ‘FBI: Most Wanted’ & ‘FBI: International’

CBS revealed the canceling of two of its police-related shows (“FBI: Most Wanted” and “FBI: International”). Given how both shows have been solid performers and key pieces of the “FBI” franchise, this decision is leaving a lot of fans scratching their heads and showing support for the programs.

“FBI: Most Wanted” Done After Six Seasons

Debuting in 2020, “FBI: Most Wanted” focused on the Fugitive Task Force hunting down dangerous criminals. It had everything a procedural fan could want including intensity, action, and plenty of character drama. Over the years, it went through some big shake-ups, including Julian McMahon’s exit in Season 3 and Dylan McDermott stepping in as the new lead. Despite cast changes, the show remained a consistent ratings winner and a staple of CBS’s Tuesday lineup.

So why the axe? That’s the big question. CBS hasn’t given a clear reason, but even with strong numbers, network decisions aren’t always about just viewership. Production costs, licensing fees, and future programming strategies all play a role. Still, canceling a show that was still performing well doesn’t sit right with fans who stuck around through all the changes.

“FBI: International” Leaves With Shorter Run

Launched in 2021, “FBI: International” took the franchise overseas, following the Fly Team as they handled high-stakes cases across the globe. It stood out by blending procedural drama with international espionage, giving fans a fresh take compared to its U.S.A.-based counterparts. The show also saw some major casting shifts, including the departure of lead actor Luke Kleintank, with Jesse Lee Soffer later joining the team.

Like “Most Wanted,” “International” held its own in the ratings, regularly pulling solid numbers for CBS. Its cancellation after just four seasons is surprising, especially since it seemed to be carving out its own space in the franchise. Whether it was a financial decision or just a shift in the network’s focus, it’s a tough loss for fans who enjoyed the global aspect of the show.

The “FBI” Franchise Isn’t Over

The bottom line is: we don’t really know why CBS chose to cancel these two shows. The good news is that although these two spin-offs are done, the flagship “FBI” series featuring Maggie (Missy Peregrym) and OA (Zeeko Zaki), isn’t going anywhere; CBS renewed it through Season 9 (i.e. 2026-2027).

In other good news, the network is already working on a new spin-off, “FBI: CIA,” according to Variety, which will focus on an FBI/CIA partnership tackling threats in New York City. So, while it’s the end of the road for “Most Wanted” and “International,” the “FBI” universe is still alive. Fans just have to hope the new addition brings something fresh to the table.

What do you think: was CBS right to cancel these shows, or did they pull the plug too soon?
