Many people assume nowadays that most iconic television shows from the past will receive the reboot treatment. However, one series that fans may never get a new version of is “Everybody Loves Raymond,” despite its episodes remaining popular both on streaming services and in syndication.
PEOPLE asked Brad Garrett, one of the stars of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” about the idea of a reboot on June 10th at the premiere of Disney Pixar’s “Elio.” He told the outlet, “There won’t be.”
Brad, who played the brother of Ray Barone in the series, continued, “And I’m just saying that because that’s something that Ray and Phil [Rosenthal, the show’s creator] have always said.” He stated that the reason for this is the death of Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts, who played their parents. Notably, Peter passed away in 2006, as did Doris in 2016.
He went on, “There is no show without the parents. They were the catalyst, and to do anything that would resemble that wouldn’t be right to the audiences or to the loyal fan base. And it was about those two families, and you can’t get around that.”
Ray Romano Recently Re-watched ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’
Many actors admit that they don’t watch their content, especially when it has been off the air for a while. The same was true for Ray Romano regarding “Everybody Loves Raymond.” However, in 2024, he spoke to PEOPLE and revealed that he had recently revisited the series.
He told an interviewer, “I got on a little kick there. I hadn’t seen the episodes.” Ray continued, “They took on a new look to me. I was appreciating them more. I was very hard on them back then. … But you see, when you’re removed from it a little, I felt like an audience member.”
Ray then revealed that he developed a rating system for episodes of “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Still, he refused to bash the parts of the show he didn’t think matched the highs of the series. According to Ray, “When you do 210 episodes, you’re going to have episodes that you think are brilliant and you’re going to have episodes that you think, ‘Wow, you know what? We kind of missed it on that one.'”
He continued, “Then you’re going to have episodes that are very good, great, and somewhere in the middle, you know what I mean? That’s just to be expected when you’re cranking an episode out every week.”
Ray and Brad Remain Busy Today
The cast of “Everybody Loves Raymond” could afford to sit back and count their residuals from the show. Still, many of them are pretty active in Hollywood today. Brad Garrett will voice the character of Lord Grigon in the upcoming Elio movie, which hits theatres on June 20th. He was also in “Saturday Night,” which was released in 2024.
Regarding Ray Romano, he was recently in Netflix’s “No Good Dead” and “Fly Me To the Moon.” Fans can find “Everybody Loves Raymond”episodes on multiple streaming platforms.
