Helen Mirren once referred to Hollywood as “a very small world,” to The Huffington Post. Eddie Murphy Announces Son Eric’s Quiet Wedding to Martin Lawrence’s Daughter
Eddie Murphy appeared on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” on May 28, and one of the topics drifted to his son, Eric. She asked Murphy about the upcoming marriage of Eric and Martin Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmine, and if he planned to sing at their wedding. “Actually, they got married, like, two weeks ago,” the SNL alum revealed. “They went off — Everybody was making the big wedding plans, and they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them.”
“You and Martin are in-laws,” Hudson remarked to her “Dream Girls” costar. “Yeah, we’re in-laws. He don’t have to pay for the big wedding now,” Murphy deadpanned.
Lawrence admitted to the Big Boys Neighborhood podcast that Murphy had told him he had to pay for their wedding. “Eddie said that I got to pay for it, cause he paid for his last daughter’s wedding — like, the last six weddings,” Lawrence said.
Murphy is the father of 10, with six daughters and four sons. 35-year-old Eric is the oldest. He and Jasmin began dating in 2021 and got engaged in November 2024, which they shared in an Instagram post.
Murphy and Lawrence Martin Lawrence Reveals How He Was ‘Starstruck’ by Eddie Murphy
Murphy and Lawrence go way back, having co-starred together in the 1992 film “Boomerang” alongside Halle Berry. The two reunited seven years later for the underappreciated buddy film, “Life.” Lawrence recalled to ESPN that he looked up to Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy. He made it a personal goal to work with both of them.
“I wanted to be like Eddie,” he said. “When I got the opportunity to work with him for the first time in Boomerang, you know I was starstruck. I was like, ‘Oh my god.'” He went on to explain how he drove the two hours from Maryland to Richmond, Virginia, to see Murphy live.
“I drove all the way back home, two hours, and all I said to myself is, ‘I got work to do, I got work to do.’ And then, so you can imagine, when Eddie called me, and Reggie Hudlin and them called me for Boomerang, how I felt to be working with my brother, Eddie Murphy.”
Murphy told Hudson that he has many ideas for his and Lawrence’s next collaboration. “There’s one thing, “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World,” he told her. “It’s an old movie from the 60s that I want to remake and do with all the funniest. It’s like a who’s who of black comics. That’s what I want to do.”
