Drew Barrymore’s Kids Had The Best Reaction To Seeing Her In Iconic ‘Scream’ Movie For The First Time

Drew Barrymore‘s daughters, Frankie and Olive, recently watched their mom in 1996’s horror movie “Scream” for the first time, according to Entertainment Weekly.

“They came home the other day and said they watched ‘Scream,’ and they were like, ‘Mom, you got it so good in that movie! Oh my God!'” Barrymore said on her eponymous talk show during the Drew’s News segment, which featured cohosts Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews.

Turns out, Frankie and Olive were watching “Scream” while at a sleepover with friends. “It’s just so fun that they’re old enough now — they’re basically 11 and 13, almost,” Barrymore said.

Barrymore’s eldest daughter, Olive, was so impressed by her mom’s “Scream” performance that she now wants to dress up as her character for Halloween.

“I think Olive said, ‘When I get a boyfriend in high school, that’s gonna be our Halloween costume. He’ll be Steve and I’ll be you,” Barrymore said. “My kids are old enough now to say things to me and I’m like, ‘Okay, cool!'”

Drew Barrymore Says She ‘Was Put On This Planet To Raise Girls’

The Hollywood star is known for keeping things 100% real about everything in her life, including how she’s used her difficult childhood to guide her parenting style.

“I found out I was having a daughter with Olive, and I thought, ‘Oh right, ok karmically that makes sense.’ There’s a lot of, ‘Ok, I’m having a girl,'” Barrymore said on the January 29, 2025 episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” “When I found out I was having Frankie, my second daughter, it humbled me in a way that I’ve never known and I’ll never forget the moment because I realized I was put on this planet to raise girls. And that everything in my life was captured and a butterfly net to try and get this right.”

“If you don’t grow up in a perfect way with a perfect family, you fear the blueprint and you go, I want to do things differently,” she added. “I felt unconfident, like this was the stakes of my life, and it took a few years, honestly, to have that confidence… Getting a grasp on [parenting] was the most exciting thing in the world.”

Drew Barrymore Calls Two Daughters Her ‘North Star’

Even though Barrymore doesn’t shy away from the pains of motherhood, she credits her daughters Frankie and Olive, whom she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman, for making her a better person.

“I know of all the relationships I’ve had — whether it was a boyfriend, a marriage, my own parents, my best friends who were my original family — no one has forced me to push myself to be a good person as much as my kids,” she told Domino Kids in a 2020 cover story.

“The most accountable, the most stable, the most emotionally rational,” she added. “It’s like they’re the catalysts; they have inspired me to change a lot of things about myself. Because it’s what I need to be for them.”
