It’s time to dust off the tea set and maybe practice your best Maggie Smith-level side-eye, because we’re getting one last hurrah with the Crawleys before the final curtain falls. According to Variety, NBC has announced “Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale,” airing Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 9:00pm ET, with streaming the next day on Peacock.
The one-hour primetime special brings the cast back together at London’s ultra-classy Savoy Hotel for a night of reminiscing, laughing, and sharing those juicy, behind-the-scenes stories we’ve never heard before. Basically, it’s the ultimate Downton catch-up party; and yes, you’re invited.
One Last Elegant Night with the Crawleys
Think of it as a family reunion… if your “family” lived in a sprawling estate and had an Oscar-winning costume designer on speed dial. Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Joanne Froggatt, Phyllis Logan, Penelope Wilton, Sophie McShera, Raquel Cassidy, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Allen Leech, Harry Hadden-Paton, and more will be in attendance, Variety reports.
And it’s not just the stars; we’ll also hear from the creative geniuses who made Downton look and sound so good. These include production designer Donal Woods, costume designer Anna Mary Scott Robbins, and composer John Lunn. In other words, this is going to be an all-hands-on-deck farewell, the kind that makes you wish you could RSVP “yes” in person.
A Little Treat Before the Big Goodbye
As if that wasn’t enough, Variety also notes the special will also serve up an exclusive preview scene from “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.” It’s the perfect appetizer before we see how this beloved saga officially wraps up on the big screen. It seems like this might be the kind of sneak peek that has us all leaning in, rewinding, and dissecting every frame until opening night.
“Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” is set to hit theaters on September 12, 2025. But before that, starting September 1, 2025 fans of the franchise can binge thier way through it all. The six seasons of the original “Downton Abbey” series and both films (“Downton Abbey” and “Downton Abbey: A New Era” will be on Peacock. So if you’ve been meaning to rewatch or, somehow, have never visited the grand halls of Downton (where have you been?), your perfect excuse has just arrived.
It looks like we’ll be saying an epic goodbye in style… pearls, tuxedos, witty banter, and all.
