Did Taylor Swift Influence Gaga’s New Song? Her Fans Seem to Think So

Rumors are swirling among Taylor Swift’s fervent ‘Swiftie’ fanbase about a secret collaboration on Lady Gaga’s latest track, “How Bad Do U Want Me.”

The song, released today on Gaga’s seventh studio album titled “Mayhem,” is one of 14 new tracks and fans across social media are dissecting every note and lyric — with many who believe Swift wrote the song — or lent her vocals to the background of it.

While there’s no evidence to back up the tantalizing rumor, fans and media outlets continue to speculate and compare.

In their review of “How Bad Do U Want Me,” Billboard noted a distinct shift in style from Lady Gaga’s typical dark pop for a sweeter, ’80s-inspired synth-pop, describing it as “one of the only songs that doesn’t fit her vision, with lyrics and melodies that feel more in tune for an artist like Taylor Swift.”

Variety agreed, writing, “How Bad Do U Want Me” is, “quite plainly, cast in the same mold as Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space.’”

Ditto for Rolling Stone, with the outlet suggesting Gaga “does her best Taylor Swift impression, giving hints of Swift’s “Gorgeous” and 1989-era synth-pop” on the track.

Taylor’s Involvement is Swiftly Dismissed

According to Page Six, an unnamed “insider,” told the outlet that any suggestion of Swift’s involvement in “How Bad Do U Want Me” are “false” and “not true.”

And, as further evidence — Swift is not credited on the song. Those who are, include Gaga and fiance, Michael Polansky, who wrote and produced the album, along with collaboration from Gesaffelstein, Cirkut and Andrew Watt.

At a press conference on March 6, just one day before her album’s official release, Gaga faced a sea of fans eager for insight. When asked which artist, living or dead, she would dream of collaborating with, Gaga’s answer was John Lennon — and her personal favorite from the album is the song, “Blade of Grass,” because she said, “it’s about when Michael proposed to me.”
