David Tennant Rocks Kilt for 2nd Year as BAFTA Host

Hosting the 2025 BAFTA ceremony for the second year in a row, Scottish actor David Tennant appeared once again in a kilt. Known for his portrayal of the 10th Doctor (and now the 14th Doctor) in “Doctor Who,” Tennant has become more than just a household name. With multiple roles in various genres of television and theater (including “Broadchurch,” “Good Omens”  and “Hamlet”), it is Tennant’s wit and captivating performances that make him a perfect awards show host. And best of all, the infamous kilt was not his only look each year.

BAFTA 2024: A Memorable First Year

Tennant made an immediate impression on his fellow celebrities and fans when he took the BAFTAs stage in 2024 as host wearing a kilt in his family’s tartan. The kilt was paired with a white shirt, bow tie, and black jacket making him look both classic and modern. The nod to his Scottish heritage, which Tennant has always been proud to display, was obvious in the look.

He also wore an emerald green suit covered in a beautiful dragon-like pattern that was both elegant, yet fearless while on the red carpet with his wife, Georgia Tennant (nee Moffett). Each of his outfits seemed to be custom tailored, giving him an effortless look, but not taking away from the celebration event.

Tennant’s hosting in 2024 was brilliant, showcasing his abilities as an entertainer. He was able to keep the night of awards being given out moving along with engaging commentary while also not overshadowing the nominees and winners. Tennant’s knack for balancing light jokes and sincerity led to an animated, yet respectful event. And led to him being invited back.

BAFTA 2025: Elevating the Look

Doubling down on his look, Tennant returned as the BAFTAs host for 2025 choosing to wear a kilt once again. This time it was a very dark navy blue with silver accents and it was paired with a velvet blazer. Foregoing the bow tie this year, Tennant wore a high collared shirt under the jacket adding a modernization to the whole thing.

The kilt outfit was actually custom made for Tennant and this year’s ceremony. This year he did something a bit different, choosing to open the show with a slightly altered version of The Proclaimers hit song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” which stole the spotlight.

Tennant again wore additional outfits a black long jacket which seemed to be encrusted in patterned jewel designs with a similarly patterned black shirt and black pants. And everything seemed to be perfect for inviting a fresh look without ruining the awards ceremony.

Building on the success of the previous event, Tennant was able to maintain that same style of hosting. But he knew what to expect and it could be seen in how relaxed and natural his hosting was. Despite a small blunder where Tennant’s microphone wire fell out of his kilt, the event seems to have gone off without a hitch.

What’s Next for David Tennant?

As one of the busiest actors out there, Tennant has a packed schedule full of upcoming projects. Making the fandom more than happy, he’s due to return to “Good Omens,” reprising his role as the demon, Crowley. Tennant is also scheduled to appear in the Netflix film, “The Thursday Murder Club,” based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Richard Osman.

He is also set to appear in multiple television series including “Standing By,” about guardian angels and their relationship with humans, “The Hack,” which focuses on the the News International phone hacking scandal, and “Hide” that tells the story of a journalist who gets in too deep and which also stars his wife Georgia.

Tennant has become a fan-favorite in almost everything he’s done, and with two successful years as the BAFTA host, there is no reason for him not to return again. If he chooses to host again in 2026 we can’t wait to see what kind of kilt he pulls out to wow us with; but only time will tell if he takes the job for a third year. One thing remains obvious: whatever David Tennant chooses to do next (whether he’s on-screen, on stage, or on the red carpet), his fans will be there to see it happen.
