When fans of the “Karate Kid” franchise first met Johnny in 1984, he was the top pupil at Cobra Kai and terrorizing Daniel while wearing his stylish red leather jacket. Throughout the six seasons of “Cobra Kai,” which premiered in 2018, Johnny has shown some serious growth, (even though he’s still rash and drinks his fair share of Coors Banquets). Meanwhile, Daniel remained consistent in his love for his late mentor Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), and his teachings. He also showed how a willingness to forgive can be the ultimate strength.

Ralph Macchio Shared His Thoughts About ‘Cobra Kai’ Ending

In a February 2025 interview with TODAY, Macchio shared his thoughts about “Cobra Kai” ending. He suggested he believes it is an appropriate time to end the series.

“I feel like it’s time to land the plane. You don’t want to overstay your welcome,” said Macchio during the TODAY interview.

He also noted that “Cobra Kai” made a new generation of “Karate Kid” fans.

“We’ve had such a great resurgence. We were just talking about multigenerational impact,” said Macchio to TODAY.

During a February 2025 interview with “Jake’s Takes,” Macchio said he did not view “Cobra Kai” ending as a “goodbye.” Instead, he thinks of it as “a see ya next time.”

“The fans will not let these characters rest,” explained Macchio during the interview.

Ralph Macchio Spoke About the Upcoming Film, ‘Karate Kid: Legends’

Fans of the “Karate Kid” franchise may be disappointed about “Cobra Kai” ending. However, this is not the last you’ll see of Daniel and his Miyagi-Do teachings! The upcoming film, “Karate Kid: Legends” will focus on Daniel teaming up with Jackie Chan’s character from the 2010 “Karate Kid” reboot to help a new student.

While speaking to TODAY, Macchio said the upcoming film, which premieres in May 2025, is “really exciting stuff.”

“It is another chapter in this grand universe,” said Macchio.
