Netflix’s series “Wednesday” is full of star-studded cameos, and Christopher Lloyd, who is known for playing Doc Brown in the “Back to the Future” franchise, is making an appearance in season 2, per Parade.
Surprisingly, it was because Lloyd was such a fan of the series that he reached out to one of the creators.
“Chris DM’d me on my Instagram,” Miles Millar told Parade. “It sounds nuts, but that’s what happened. He reached out, saying he was a huge fan of Season 1 and loved it, and would love to come and be a part of Season 2. This was like, and we were like, ‘Oh, don’t ask us twice!'”
According to Parade, Lloyd plays a teacher at Wednesday’s school, Nevermore, and his character is literally a discombobulated head.
“You think about ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ And this idea of, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if there’s a teacher who’s just a head in a jar?'” Millar said.
Millar continued, “And Chris was a total trooper. It was a pretty elaborate visual effects situation in terms of capturing his performance and making that happen. And he was incredible.”
“We could geek out because we’re such huge fans of his work and his legacy of decades in the business, and all those iconic roles. So it was fabulous to have him in the show,” he said.
Loyd is no stranger to “The Addams Family” productions, having played Uncle Fester in the 1991 film, as well as in “Addams Family Values” two years later.
Lloyd Has Always Been Connected to Uncle Fester
Lloyd may be known as Doc Brown to fans, but he has always had a soft spot for Uncle Fester. “I grew up on Uncle Fester. There was a magazine that my parents subscribed to, and it always had cartoons. The New Yorker always had cartoons. I never read anything; I just read the cartoons,” he told fans, per CinemaDave.
He added, “Charles Addams was alive at that time, and every edition had an Addams Family cartoon, and I always was hopeful that Uncle Fester would be in it because … I really dug him. He just had this strangeness, his slightly devilish, evil, little mischievous things that he did.”
“And as I grew older, he was in my past and I was on to other things, and decades later I got a call, offer to do Uncle Fester. I mean, what are the odds? What are the odds?
“And I was just like ‘This can’t be happening’, I can live out onscreen the school monster I fell in love with when I was an adolescent. So that was cool,” Lloyd told the audience.
