Christina Applegate Vulnerably Reveals Heartbreaking Comment From Her Daughter Amid MS Battle

One thing we’ve always adored about Christina Applegate is her unflinching honesty. Since revealing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, the “Dead to Me” star has talked openly about everything. Topics like bladder and bowel issues or her difficulty leaving the house aren’t off the table. But her frank words about how MS changed her as a parent were some of the most emotional and complex to hear.

She was diagnosed with MS when her daughter, Sadie, was just 10 years old. The changes Applegate has gone through have been more pronounced for her daughter than for anyone else. But in a recent appearance on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, Applegate admits they recently argued. The words that the teenager said to her in the heated moment were valid, but incredibly hard to hear.

She Reveals Emotional Behind-the-Scenes Moments with Daughter Sadie

Christina Applegate was explaining to Ripa that she and Sadie are “going through some stuff right now.” But, still, her daughter is the reason that she gets up in the morning.

“She’s the reason I’m still here, and trying,” Applegate confessed. “But she did say to me — and we got into a big thing the other day — and sorry, Sadie, but it has to be said. She said, ‘I missed who you were before you got sick,'” the actress said. “That is just like a knife to the heart because I miss who I was before I got sick, too. Very much so.”

“Every day of my life is such a loss,” she added.

Sadie Shares the Struggles of Watching Her Mom Battle Multiple Sclerosis

Previously, Sadie shared her feelings about her mom’s MS. She appeared on “MeSsy,” Applegate’s podcast, which she hosts with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS.

“It’s been tough watching my mom going from this person who could get up and dance. And every night when I was a kid we would dance in her room for hours at a time,” Sadie explained.

“When she got diagnosed, it kind of just felt like…not like everything was over, but it was hard seeing my mom lose a lot of the abilities she used to have in my childhood,” she continued. “It’s definitely hard seeing my mom struggle with this.”

Hearing her words was emotional for Applegate. But she wanted her daughter to know that she is still her mother and will try to do the things she used to, even when it’s hard.

“I don’t ever want you to feel that I’m not capable to be your protector, your mother, you know, I love you,” she told her. “I want to make you food. I want to bring it to you. I want to do all the things and I do when I can. And I feel incredibly guilty when I can’t.”
