Charlize Theron’s Kids Compared Her to Tom Cruise, and He Came Out on Top

Whether you love her in dramas, like her Oscar-winning role in “Monster,” or comedic roles such as Charlotte in “Long Shot,” it’s hard to deny that Charlize Theron has become quite the action star in the last decade. Between her roles as Cipher in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise and Furiosa in “Mad Max,” she’s game for anything. Unfortunately, her kids still think Tom Cruise is cooler, which she shared in a humorous story with Jimmy Kimmel.

Her Kids Aren’t Impressed With Her Action Movie Skills

Theron is an actress adored by fans all over the globe. It’s disheartening that her kids couldn’t care less about the movies she’s been in. In one case, one of her children even compared her to Tom Cruise, with Cruise coming out on top.

“I was picking up my youngest from dance yesterday and we drove past the new “Mission Impossible” poster,” Theron said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” “Where Tom Cruise is hanging onto some yellow plane, and he just looks really cool.”

“My kids were with me when I shot “Old Guard 2,” and I worked on this incredibly intricate sequence. Where we brought in this amazing helicopter pilot, Fred North,” she went on. “And we were gonna choreograph this incredible, like, me fighting helicopters and jumping on this real helicopter and hanging off this real [helicopter]. Shooting 99% of it on a real helicopter as it’s trying to, like, shake me off like a rag doll. 

“We took like two weeks to shoot this sequence. And I was like, ‘Wow, I just did that, that’s really amazing.’ And my child yesterday just looked at this poster of Tom Cruise and went, ‘It’s weird, he looks so much cooler than you did when you were hanging off the helicopter.’

“I was just like, ‘But I hung off the helicopter! Just, like, some credit?’” she said, laughing.

Charlize Theron Reveals Who She Thinks Is the ‘OG’ of Action Movies

Theron stars with Uma Thurman in “The Old Guard 2,” a sequel to her 2020 action film. Getting Uma Thurman to star alongside her was a dream come true for her.

“I knew her from being a massive fan, just watching her work,” she told Kimmel. “And [I] always wanted to do something with her. Because when I kind of came into the action world, she was really, to me, like the sensei. Like, she was the OG.” Then, Theron and Kimmel agree that Thurman was robbed when she didn’t get an Oscar for “Kill Bill.”

“What she did in that film was just so unbelievable. And to me was such — she’s just such a badass,” she continued. “Since I’ve been in action movies, I’m like, who do I want to work with and do an action sequence with? It’s always been Uma Thurman. Always.”
