Charlize Theron isn’t letting any injury stop her from connecting with fans. While promoting her action-packed films, the Oscar-winning actress revealed she is recovering after suffering a minor injury. She was performing her own stunts for her latest action thriller, “Apex.”
Theron explained that the accident occurred during an intense scene in which she chose not to use any safety equipment. This included a harness, which would slow her down to keep her weight leveled.
Charlize Theron Reflects on Risky Stunt Work
Speaking during Netflix’s 2025 upfront presentation, Theron shared behind-the-scenes insight into the filming process. “Our crew delivered a really impressive movie, and yours truly did some stunts and action — without a harness, sometimes,” she said, laughing. “Don’t tell Netflix.”
Best known for her show-stopping roles in films like “Atomic Blonde” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Theron said she takes pride in doing her own stunts.
“It was an incredible experience,” she added. “It’s actually a miracle that I’m here today. ‘Apex’ only wrapped about a week ago, so I’m fresh off the mountain. I still have some Australian dirt under this pretty manicure. And my cute boot? It’s hiding a fractured toe. I could go on, but I won’t.”
“I’m really proud to share a little of this mammoth movie that I got to work on,” she stated. “And I have to say, I was very lucky to work alongside the very talented Taron Egerton.”
Theron and Egerton Join Forces
Theron also gave audiences a glimpse into the story behind “Apex.” The film follows a woman trying to rediscover herself while on a solitary rock-climbing journey. However, things take a terrifying turn when she becomes the target of a relentless human predator. She quickly tries to escape the terrifying trek and begins to fight for her life. While the identity of the antagonist wasn’t officially confirmed, many speculate it’s played by the “Rocketman” star, who also appeared in the trailer.
The survival thriller, directed by Baltasar Kormákur, also stars Eric Bana, known for roles in “Troy,” “Hulk,” and “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” alongside Rachel McAdams. Set against the rugged Australian wilderness, “Apex” promises intense action, emotional depth, and gripping suspense that will keep viewers on their feet. Despite her injury, Theron’s commitment to realism and physical performance once again proves her dedication to the cinema craft.
No stranger to action films, the South African American actress and producer for her own company, Denver and Delilah Productions, is known for her daring, powerful performances in both action-packed and dramatic roles. She first rose to fame in the late 1990s with films such as “The Cider House Rules” and “The Devil’s Advocate.”
In 2004, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in “Monster,” alongside Christina Ricci.
