Charlie Hunnam may be a Hollywood heartthrob thanks to roles in “Sons of Anarchy” and “King Arthur,” but when it comes to his personal life, the actor keeps things extremely private. For more than 15 years, Hunnam has been in a long-term relationship with jewelry designer Morgana McNelis. And while the couple is not officially married, Hunnam says he already considers McNelis his wife in every way that matters.

Hunnam and McNelis have been together for over 15 years. Despite their lengthy relationship, they have not yet walked down the aisle. In a 2020 Sirius XM interview, Hunnam admitted he was “sort of indifferent” about marriage, but added, “She does not feel the same. She’s very eager. I’ll do it because it’s important to her, but I don’t have any great romantic feelings towards it.”

A few days later, Hunnam clarified his remarks, saying, “I’m, like, so romantic, and the reality is I sort of consider myself married. I’ve been with my girlfriend for 14 years. The official government sanction of it doesn’t mean anything to me, but the romance of it means an enormous amount.”

McNelis, who is the creative force behind the jewelry brand Maison de Morgana, leads what she calls a “simple life.” Her designs have even attracted celebrity fans like Zac Efron and Troian Bellisario. In fact, she custom-makes jewelry for Hunnam, who once told ELLE, “I love it. It’s so discrete and beautiful.”

Beyond her jewelry work, McNelis is passionate about giving back. She has partnered with the nonprofit Naretoi to support Maasai women in Kenya through education and jewelry sales. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also helped organize food donations for Maasai families.

The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Star Has Shared a Bit About His Private Life Over the Years

One reason Hunnam and McNelis have remained so grounded is their shared love of privacy and simplicity. In 2013, the couple bought a ranch in California. “My girlfriend and I just bought a ranch, so we are getting out of Hollywood completely,” Hunnam told 7 Nights Magazine, via People. “We’ve got 30 chickens and a couple of donkeys, a couple of ducks, and we’ve got a big, organic garden. We are going to try to live a bit more sustainably.”

Though McNelis keeps a low profile, she has always been supportive of Hunnam’s career. When he accepted (and later exited) the role of Christian Grey in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” he said they made the decision together and that she was “really excited” about the opportunity.

“It’s very hard to be with an actor,” Hunnam told People. “She’s required to share parts of me that she wouldn’t really want to share. And with the certain nature of this role, it’s going to be times 10.”

Hunnam is equally supportive of McNelis and often goes out of his way to show appreciation. Speaking with People at the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival, he said, “Before I came away to TIFF, I ended up staying up until 5 in the morning because I decided that I was going to clean the entire house, do all the grocery shopping, and all of the laundry… I thought it would be nice for her to come home with everything immaculate and done.”
