Catherine Zeta-Jones is getting candid. Opening up about life, love & family, she reflects on her 25-year marriage to Michael Douglas. In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the 55-year-old actress shared how she & Douglas, 80, balance a jet set lifestyle with comfort.
She reveals all about the homes they own together and why creating a warm, grounded space matters more to her than extravagance.
Inside Zeta-Jones & Douglas’ Global Homes & Family Life

Zeta-Jones revealed the couple owns four properties, including one in Canada, one in Spain, and two in New York. “I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty, but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable,” she explained.
The couple, who tied the knot in November 2000, have built a life together raising two children, Dylan, 25, and Carys, 22. Douglas also shares son Cameron, 46, with his ex-wife, Diandra Luker.
A Love for Fashion Without Excess

While Zeta-Jones often dazzles on the red carpet, she says her day-to-day style is far more down-to-earth. “A pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 ($270) on a white T-shirt? Nah,” she said.
The actress shared her love of vintage shopping, often browsing stores in Paris for unique finds. “I go to all the vintage stores in Paris. I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces,” she revealed.

“I am loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses. For me… the artistry… I love the theatre of fashion.”
Childhood Roots in Wales
Zeta-Jones also reflected on her upbringing in Swansea, Wales, and the influence of her parents. Her mother, Patricia, was a seamstress while her father, David, worked in a candy factory.
The family’s life changed when her father won more than $135,000 in a game of bingo, which eventually allowed him to buy the factory. The windfall also funded Zeta-Jones’ dance lessons. “It feels like a very precocious thing, and I don’t know where it comes from, but I’d say it out loud, ‘I want to be on the stage.’ I was a bit of a prodigy,” she recalled.
Douglas on Their Spanish Estate
Zeta-Jones’ comments about their homes come shortly after Douglas opened up about the couple’s beloved estate, S’Estaca, on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
The actor originally purchased the compound with Luker for $3.5 million in 1990. Following their 2000 divorce, the pair shared the home for years in what Douglas described as an “uncomfortable” arrangement.
“Now that everything is arranged and that the house is one hundred percent ours, Catherine’s and mine, I can say that I never wanted to leave,” Douglas said in a 2021 interview. He emphasized that the estate would remain in the family for generations, adding, “Cameron, Dylan and Carys love it. My daughter speaks Spanish perfectly.”
Calling the island “magical,” Douglas reflected on their life together, citing the saying “happy wife, happy life.”
He added, “My ex-wife Diandra is no longer an owner, a partner with us, so we have the house together and Catherine’s very happy here.”
