Bryan Cranston has played a dad in many of his most critically acclaimed roles, including “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Breaking Bad,” and the recently released film, “Everything’s Going to Be Great.” But it’s his real-life role as dad that he’s proudest of. On a recent appearance on “Today,” the actor couldn’t hold back his praise of his daughter’s work in the series, “The Pitt.”
Bryan Cranston Says Praise for Daughter Taylor Means More Than Anything Else
“Taylor is a wonderful, hard-working actor. She grew up in this business with my wife and I being actors,” Cranston told Craig Melvin. “And we’re so proud of her. I’ve got to tell you, Craig, when I hear praise for Taylor’s work on “The Pitt,” it means more to me than anything anyone could ever say to me about my work.”
“You’re a proud dad,” he added emotionally. “I’m okay, I can retire after I hear that.”
Cranston told the Associated Press something similar at the Tribeca Film Festival. “There is nothing that is more gratifying than when your kid receives praise. Nothing. No one can say anything to me that’s better than that.”
On Max’s hospital drama “The Pitt,” Dearden plays a neurodivergent doctor named Dr. Melissa ‘Mel’ King. The show, as well as Dearden, has garnered significant attention for the portrayal of a neurodivergent character.
Bryan Cranston’s Only Child Swore Off Nepotism
Taylor Dearden Cranston is the only child of Bryan Cranston and his wife, Robin Dearden. She goes by Taylor Dearden professionally. While attending the University of California, she appeared in several short films, as well as the web series “101 Ways to Get Rejected.”
After graduating from USC in 2015, she was cast as Ophelia Mayer on the MTV series “Sweet/Vicious.” In 2017, she had a part as Cleo in “Heartthrob,” and then played Chloe Lyman in the series “American Vandal” the following year.
In 2020, she played the part of Joanna Miller in “The Last Champion,” starring “Yellowstone’s” Cole Hauser. She also took minor roles in a few series, including Jennifer Garner’s “The Last Thing He Told Me.”
She appeared in Season 3 of “Breaking Bad” as a student at the school where her father’s character, Walter White, taught. Cranston told GQ in 2023 that he has offered to help Taylor in any way he can, but she always declines.
“She’s very independent,” Cranston said. “And very conscientious of not having any association or hint thereof of nepotism.”
