Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are back at it in the upcoming sequel, “Another Simple Favor,” and it’s shaping up to be as stylish and twisted as the first. Directed by Paul Feig, this follow-up to the 2018 thriller “A Simple Favor” takes things to the next level with a glamorous setting in Capri, Italy.
A Twisted Tale of Friendship and Deception
When “A Simple Favor” first hit theaters in 2018, it was an instant hit. The film introduced us to Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick), a sweet, perfectionist mommy blogger, and Emily Nelson (Blake Lively), the effortlessly chic and mysterious woman she meets; and eventually loses. Emily’s sudden disappearance kicks off a wild ride filled with secrets, murder, and betrayal, all wrapped in dark humor and high fashion.
The film felt like a mix of “Gone Girl” and Paul Feig’s signature comedy, making it a standout. Now, with “Another Simple Favor,” we’re about to see these two women dive deeper into the intrigue. Get ready for a new round of twisted thrills, high-fashion drama, and plenty of jaw-dropping moments.
A Glamorous Reunion in Capri
In “Another Simple Favor,” Emily is back from prison and “reconnecting with an old flame who has a lot of power,” according to director Paul Feig in an Entertainment Weekly exclusive. She invites Stephanie, now a private investigator, to her lavish wedding in Capri, and as you’d expect, things get complicated fast. Feig says he wanted to take the characters “out of their comfort zone,” and Capri’s beauty makes the perfect backdrop for the chaos that’s about to unfold.
Feig also mentions that the stunning visuals show “the beauty of Capri via boat and sports car as Emily and Stephanie arrive,” giving us a taste of the luxurious settings and colorful wardrobes. Expect everything to be elevated; this sequel is not messing around.
Fashion, Intrigue, and High Stakes
The story dives even deeper into Emily and Stephanie’s complex relationship, with “murder and betrayal” at its core. Feig, who wasn’t keen on doing a sequel at first, says there’s still “more fun to be had with these characters,” and that definitely sounds like it’s going to be true. High-stakes drama mixed with impeccable fashion? Yes, please.
Emily’s signature style gets a major spotlight in this movie, including a “sizable black-and-white hat” (definitely something we’ll all be talking about). The cast is also stacked with returning faces like Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, and Bashir Salahuddin, plus Alex Newell as Stephanie’s book agent. Feig’s love for Capri shines through, and it’s clear the picturesque yet deceiving nature of the island plays a big part in the film’s vibe.
This movie is shaping up to be a thrilling, stylish ride. “Another Simple Favor” will premiere at the SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 7, 2025, before hitting Prime Video on May 1, 2025. As the release date nears, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Blake and Anna as they return for another round of glamorous mayhem.
