Book your stay and get ready to check in to “Haunted Hotel,” the all-new adult comedy series from “Rick and Morty” writer Matt Roller, when it opens its doors on September 19, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
The dark comedy series will follow the story of a single mother of two as she struggles to get her hotel, the Undervale, up and running, despite its collection of ghostly, ghoulish and downright otherworldly inhabitants, with the help of her estranged late brother, who thinks his fellow spirits have some pretty good ideas for getting living guests through the Undervale’s doors.
“Haunted Hotel” marks Roller’s latest animated project after acting as an executive producer on series like Dan Harmon’s “Krapopolis” and Tina Fey’s “Mr. Mayor.” Roller similarly lent his comedic talents as a writer to series like “Speechless,” “Community,” “Son of Zorn,” FX’s “Archer” and, of course, “Rick and Morty” before selling his latest project to Netflix in a highly competitive auction that landed “Haunted Hotel” as the streaming giant’s latest straight-to-series order.
In addition to writing the series, Roller will similarly join as showrunner and executive producer alongside Chris McKenna (“Spider-Man: Now Way Home,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home”), Dan Harmon (“Rick and Morty,” “Community”) and Steve Levy (“Rick and Morty,” “Community”). Erica Hayes, who previously worked with Roller, Harmon and Levy on “Rick and Morty,” will join the “Haunted Hotel” team as supervising director.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Netflix and an amazingly talented cast and crew to bring to life the stories of the dead, the evil, and the struggling hospitality workers at the Undervale Hotel,” Roller told Netflix in a statement.
With just weeks left until “Haunted Hotel” opens its doors, here’s everything fans need to know about the forthcoming adult animated series.
What is ‘Haunted Hotel’ About?
“Haunted Hotel” will follow the story of Katherine Freeling (Eliza Coupe), a recently divorced mother, as she tries to piece together a new life for her and her two kids, Ben (Skyler Gisondo) and Esther (Natalie Palamides). The secret to getting back on their feet might just lie in the Undervale, the hotel that Katherine inherited from her late brother Nathan (Will Forte), but only if the Freeling family can figure out how to handle the Undervale’s previous tenants – a host of “geists, ghouls, and grim, grinning ghosts.”
Joining the Freeling’s as they try to turn their haunted new property into a thriving hospitality business are Nathan, the ghost of Katherine’s estranged brother, and Abaddon (Jimmi Simpson), an immortal 18th century child harboring the spirit of a demon from the depths of the underworld.
Who Stars in ‘Haunted Hotel’?
The voice cast for Netflix’s “Haunted Hotel” will feature “Happy Endings” star Eliza Coupe as Katherine Freeling, “Focker In-Law” actor Skyler Gisondo as Ben, and “Powerpuff Girls” voice actress Natalie Palamides as Esther. “Last Man on Earth” star Will Forte will join the production as the ghost of Nathan Freeling, with “Dark Matter” and “Westworld” actor Jimmi Simpson rounding out the main cast as Abaddon.

“Haunted Hotel” will make its series debut on Friday, September 19, 2025, streaming exclusively on Netflix. The full 10-episode season will be uploaded on that date, with each episode scheduled to last approximately 25 minutes.
