Whitney Houston Remembered on Her 62nd Birthday

The world lost a national treasure when Whitney Houston passed away in February 2012. Of course, the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer’s legacy lives on, and today, August 9, fans are remembering Houston on what would have been her 62nd birthday. 

Notably, Houston’s estate took to her official Instagram account to mark her birthday. The person running the account wrote, “Happy Heavenly Birthday, Whitney. #40YearsOfExcellence”


Fans Wish Houston a Happy Birthday

Houston was and is what many would call a once-in-a-lifetime artist. This is thanks to the powerhouse voice she had, as well as her command of the stage. As a result, many of her fans are paying tribute to her legacy on her birthday. 

A person who posts to X under the name Ave wrote, “Happy Birthday, Whitney Houston.” They then summarized her legacy, saying, “Over 200 million records sold, 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Guinness World Records, as well as induction into the Grammy, Rhythm and Blues Music, and Rock and Roll halls of fame.”

Someone by the name of Lorraine King posted, “Remembering Whitney Houston on what would have been her 62nd birthday (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012). She left us far too soon.”

The African & Black History account posted, “Happy Birthday to the talented, iconic, and legendary Whitney Houston. She would’ve turned 62 today. Gone, but your music still lives on.”

The Music Date account on X said, “Happy 62nd Birthday, to the late Whitney Houston. The greatest singer of her generation earned eleven Hot 100 #1 singles, won 6 #GRAMMYs, and sold over 260 million records worldwide.”

Finally, a person who posts under the name of 777 posted clips of the love Houston and Michael Jackson had for one another.

They wrote, “The industry may have kept Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson from recording together, but they always showed love for each other’s music. Here’s Whitney covering some of MJ’s most iconic songs. Happy birthday, Nippy. I know you two are finally doing that duet in heaven.


Her Legacy is Alive and Well

Houston began her legendary career in 1985 with her groundbreaking debut album. It included hits such as “Saving All My Love for You,” “How Will I Know,” and “Greatest Love of All.” Throughout her career, Houston released seven studio albums, with the last being 2009’s “I Look to You.” According to Chart Masters, she sold in the ballpark of 200 million records. 

Of course, Houston was also an actress. She starred in 1992’s “The Bodyguard” with Kevin Costner and 1995’s “Waiting to Exhale.” However, one of her most iconic roles was starring alongside Brandy Norwood in 1997’s “Cinderella.” As many know, this was also a pivotal moment in Brandy’s career, as Houston was her idol. 

Houston’s final movie, “Sparkle,” was released following her passing in 2012.
